Chess prodigy starts AI company, just bought by Google: http://recode.net/2014/01/26/exclus...icial-intelligence-startup-deepmind-for-400m/
Google is an amazing company..created less than 2 decades ago and they already control the planet. After capture of search engine market, all things are possible:eek:
http://www.sacbee.com/2014/01/16/6076889/world-chess-champion-makes-a-winning.html http://af4c.org/ I have to study this further, but no question it is a good idea. The problem is that Carlsen has no idea how to teach young children chess. It is a horrible mistake to assume that the best chess players understand the first thing about the classroom. No question though, a brain on chess, something spectacular happens to it. Only music and abstract mathematics have an equal powerful impact. I have never seen anything else with these powers.
The article reports that Carlsen is an honorary chairman. Nothing about him going into classrooms to teach. Your job is safe, nitro. You can relax.
Then the title is mostly empty, and has the feel of being a marketing gimick. There are three tiers of student management that any teacher will tell you need in order to get a student to succeed: Discipline Motivation Instruction Carlsen will be used only for motivation, but unless he engages the kids somehow, it will be short lived. He has enourmous discipline, but does not know how to impose that on someone else. He is the best player in the world, but does he know how to break things down and make it simple to be a good instructor? My hope is that he takes it more seriously than "honorary chairman". Carlsen was essentially taught using a variant of the Dvoretsky method, but that doesn't work with everyone.
His title could be Head Cheerleader, what does it matter? He is the biggest name in chess right now and probably the most marketable champion in the US since Fischer. Even if all he did was pose for pictures, it would still be good for chess in this country if it means more money flowing into the game.
The strongest chess tournament in history, The Zurich Chess Challenge 2014, is underway. Average rating of just over 2800. This is the livestream: http://new.livestream.com/chess24/events/2727830 The Chessbomb site along with the livestream is a nice combo: http://chessbomb.com/site/ The first thing Anand has to do is get rid of that stupid toupee. It looks ridiculous as most toupee's do. It looks like a dead skunk on his dead just laying there.
One of the problems with commentators is most of them should STFU. At the Zurich livestream above, Leko is being "helped" by to relatively weak players. They should shut up and LISTEN and maybe learn something from a player that is 8 leagues above their playing strength.
