Chess Candidates Tournament has begun

  1. The men's Candidates Tournament featuring 8 top players began today. The winner will get to challenge Ding Liren for the World Chess Championship later in the year.

There are two Americans and three Indians playing in the men's/open tournament. There is also a women's Candidates Tournament occurring at the same time.

The play-by-play is being broadcast on at least two Youtube channels (and likely some international sites too) with either Chess.com pundits or with FIDE commentators:

    I thought it would be
    Human vs AI.

  3. There are two days left (i.e., two matches for each player; they play one per day) and four players are at the top of the standings with only 1/2 point separating them:
Americans Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana, Russian player Ian Nepomniachtchi, and 17 year old (!) Indian Gukesh Dommaraju.

Hikaru plays Nepo today and then Fabi plays Nepo tomorrow... would prefer that one of them or Gukesh wins it all, in part since Nepomniachtchi has won the last two Candidates tournaments.

The large number of fighting games has been a real treat for chess nerds...

  4. Fabiano and Gukesh won in today's penultimate round...

Standings going into the final day:
