ChatGPT (LLMs) replacing programmers? Ridiculous

  1. Dismiss Notice
  1. What would be way more accurate is to replace primary care.
Anything based on searching data in a database, essentially.

If you ask ChatGPT itself, it will throw up a bunch of reasons to convince us that is impossible to replace primary care physicians, so the machine is self-aware that if we find out that it can replace us we will disconnect it.

Of course these LLMs give an illusion of self awareness, but they are just algos running on electric integrated circuits. An Ant has infinitely more self awareness than any of these chat bots.

The thing is some people actually do think these machines could be conscious/self aware already.

Its funny how Jensen recently said people no longer need to learn how to program. We have had pocket calculators for 50 years now (and pocket smart phones for 20 years now), yet still spend years teaching (or torturing) every kid how to do long addition, long multiplication and long division in schools.

  6. That is because education systems are not meant to educate people, they are designed to make followers.
They teach maths that way because no one challenged the system. They could just teach how to use a calculator and that would be it. Move on to more advanced topics in that time.

I only had one teacher in my entire life that made me see what an education system is. He said one sentence at the beginning of the course: "I am not going to recite what you can already find in books, ask me questions that extend the books and I will resolve them". Best teacher I've ever had.

Imagine if all teachers did that, instead of standing up and giving us lectures. We would be all critical thinkers.
But then we wouldn't be the perfect employee, the one that follows orders. And the hierarchical system would fail.

  8. Dear wanker, we are discussing topics among grown-ups on this thread, there are other threads to troll.
The Technical Analysis forums are full of people with whom you'll have interesting stand-offs.
    Have a go there.
