"I am trying to gather statistics" That is a Nice diversionary tactic but no cigar. My response was verbatim to words in your post which you started this thread with. https://www.elitetrader.com/et/thre...martedge-oversold-overselling-problem.360604/
You should always wait for a confirmation! If you place the order twice than you just placed an order twice. Your error, I'm afraid. You can always try 'Cancel Replace' order. BTW I use Streetsmart as well and no such issues. If you're using limit orders than you could also just simply check where the market is in relation to where your limit price is. If you believe you should have fill there is T&S. If you submitted a 'Market Order' those are guaranteed than for sure you should not be sending an order twice.
Thank you very much for commenting and your opinion, I need to clarify that I actually came up with this thread by reading the following discussion,
re: T&S Don't use acronyms especially when addressing inexperienced traders. T&S = Time and Sales I am not sure that even experienced traders use that acronym. As to your reply you are correct. If you think you deserve a fill just cancel the order. you should get an immediate message to the status of the order regardless whether it shows in your position or not.
The best way to avoid overselling your positions is actually to close your positions by clicking that “close position” button or menu item, in that way, you don’t tell the system how many shares to sell, and the broker can’t even blame you for overselling stocks since you only tell them to close your positions.
%% I had the double selling probleM a very few times with IBKR. but i dont blame game them/counterPROductive. Markets mispricing thier stock?? Free3.... says. Sounds like someone needs to cut a loss + take responsibility+ quit playing with GME if cant profit with it. Etrade was the worst broker by far for me, good riddance \maybe MS fires plenty of them/improvement..............................................................................
