Trade4gainz, I am doing TopStepTrader in a few months myself. I was with TST about 8 months ago, I return to them soon in the 30K account.
Peter10, Yes they did fund me, but after 3 weeks in funded I was booted because I hit there drawdown limits. Then I had to start over.
if a funded trader keeps 100% of the first 5K profits, why not opening a position in TST and an exact inverse position in his brokerage account ? at the best he loses in TST (with no consequences other than membership, fees, slippage and commission) and makes all that money in his accocunt. at the worse he wins in TST and loses in personal account but he's entitled, anyway, to the 100% of the profits up to 5K. overall loss is membership, fees, slippage and commissions.
I haven't read the details and mechanics of TST, sorry if I'm jumping into wrong conclusions. But if one is a funded trader it's TST money, as far as I understood. Having symmetric positions in TST account and our account, means losing 1K of their money and winning 1K in our real account. The cost of this shot is not free but it's low, I think (it's the cost of membership until one is a funded member, data fees, slippage and commissions). Isn't this an +EV shot ?
