@Tradess0610 Really good points. Appreciate the thoughts. Yes, that's what I'm after. I feel like I need to have a minimum of understanding what may be moving something. How things work, even if at a basic level. But now that I'm aware, after my IMC+CFA 1 I'll definitely take the CMT next. I don't feel like I can target anything at the moment really. Not from an AM/trading standpoint. And if it's true that PnL is the measure by which one is judged on whether or not is able to make money...well that's not going well as it's year number #2 and my starting 10ks are at 8.5k lol (I can't trade most things due to restrictions imposed by my employer - PE space). Hehe thanks and good for you! What if that someone is myself though? Thanks
Software/Platform work. What I've been doing since forever. Employees can pick funds and put some money into them. But I skipped it because I wanted to know the details (leverage can be used here) and the decisional window dictated by the company was too short for my liking. So I passed.
I see. if they are a proper PE firm (not the ones I deal with), it’s probably a better investment than trading - especially if you can avoid the fees.
Well then you better change this mindset I worked in 2 PE funds, both of them were smaller (15-20 people) and none of them employed a dedicated software person On the plus side, there was absolutely no limits on day trading. What all is your employer prohibiting you to trade?
Basically everything except for spot forex, UCITS ETFs and crypto. Everything else is either prohibited (single name securities aka stocks) or requires knocking at compliance door for permissions (i.e. options futures etc). This is a global, rock solid PE. See what I did there...
Trading encumbered is a bad idea. work to grow within the PE firm. You will make far more money doing that. is the firm probably in the black a lot?
lol I hope it's not. I'm skeptical about growing, especially within my current field. I don't think the effort vs reward is worth it. I kinda had enough.. I agree re: trading with limitations. Very much not ideal.
