With the rise of ChatGPT, I can only guess what type of idiots we'll be seeing in the near future. Definitely more dumbed down than their predecessors.
I think celebrity endorsers should bear some responsibility. They know full well why they were chosen by companies to hawk their wares: reach. With that kind of power and considerable compensation should come some responsibility. Unless, of course, they preface their endorsement with "I don't really know anything about this stuff but..."
They are supposed to acknowledge that it is a paid endorsement, aka, advertisement. They did not, thus the lawsuit.
Are they nowadays? See, that's for how long I have abstained. I remember when I lived in central NJ some time ago how all the fresh-off-the-boat dads thought there is nothing more honorable and adorable than taking the son to a baseball game (and being absent fathers all the other times and occasionally hitting mommy in their drunk stupor).
