If he gets work (maybe he had it lined up in advance). There is an oversupply of doctors in Canada and many who cannot get work.
And now WITH even more intervention it's even worse than before. We already had insurance regulation. So much so in fact you couldn't even buy policies across state lines. Of course there was no good reason for that. It was the result of...well you guessed it. Excessive government intervention. Free markets work, if the politicians would only let them.
Where did you hear that? I live in Toronto, which has a constant shortage of family doctors. In fact, most Government reports I read, indicate a nation-wide shortage of family doctors. He's a psychiatrist so he was booked within 2 weeks. My experience with the Canadian healthcare system has been poor. Our system is designed to catch and treat the big killers (cancer, heart disease, trauma). And in those cases, it does well, once a person actually gets treatment (iow, long wait times). For other non-life threatening conditions (mental, hormonal etc), support is terrible. Socialized medicine is not all it's cracked up to be. Cost and waste is enormous. My friend says there's so much abuse and waste in the system that could easily be eliminated, but due to the nature of bureaucracy and no oversight, nothing changes. While everyone receives care, it's mostly substandard care with long wait times, unless you're on your deathbed. A great compromise is a two tier system which runs parallel along side each other (public/private). Many affluent Canadians travel to the US or abroad for superior medical services that simply aren't available here because Canada outlaws for-profit medical practices.
The news. Anyway, I agree about getting care elsewhere when you're in a hurry and have money. Of course the Americans could and still can do the same. As for Canada outlawing for-profit practices, not quite. My doctor is an MD, not a GP, and so, as he tells me, it's legal for him to practice and charge $300 an hour.
So are you for some type of federal regulation that would allow insurance to be sold across state lines? Should state governments have the right to put standards on out of state insurance companies? If a states citizens have been screwed by dishonest insurance companies (read free market) should states have standards that insurance companies have to meet so it's citizens are protected? Do you see any way all of this can be done without regulations? I don't and a little reading will tell you that the misdeeds by the insurance companies in the free market brought on most of these regulations themselves. You don't have to answer, I'm just pointing out the obvious that there isn't a simple fix and there will be no perfect fix. And this isn't even getting into the medical complex cartel and the price fixing going on there. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/tzmFtzhmZAA?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I'm not arguing there should be NO regulations. And if you're OK with "less than perfect". I'd been OK with leaving well enough alone. Why make things more complicated, more expensive, force millions to change policies/doctors just for the sake of a few? All under the ridiculous premise of "we have to do something".
No, I'm not wrong. I've bought my own health insurance the past 18 years. I ALWAYS had the CHOICE of what kind of policy to buy from a $250 deductible to a $10,000 deductible. There were an incredible number of choices from a variety of insurers. Now that does not exist due to Odumbocare. There is one policy that everyone is FORCED to buy. This is a FACT. You're suggesting that EVERYONE has to have pediatric dental, pediatric vision and maternity makes sense? Those are mandated in Odumbocare. Why should anyone be forced to buy a product that they do not want or need? With auto one can choose to have collision or not. Same with comprehensive coverage. You can choose what amount of medical benefits to have. Same with liability. We are not FORCED to buy a one size fits all policy.
Did you ever consider YOUR THINKING may be why you're living in a camper begging for more regulations so you can roof more houses? Let me help you: ANYTIME THIS WAAAAAAAY TOO BIG, AND EXTREMELY OUT OF CONTROL FED GUBMENT GETS INVOLVED IN ANYTHING, IT'S A CLUSTER FUCK, NIGHTMARE TO SAY THE LEAST. Never in my life would I have dreamed I'd read gubment-loving shit from a laborer. When I mixed mortar during my high school summers, I NEVER heard ANYONE say we need MORE gubment regulations, nor did I EVER her them say the love thy gubment like you do. Of course, these guys also lived in houses, and had money THEY WORKED FOR in their pockets...
I'm in a business where there is no government money, it's go out and work or don't pay your bills. Unlike you someone who has lived off of the government his whole life. It's a joke that a man's who has spent a lifetime collecting government checks gripes about the government and criticizes someone who actually goes out there and competes in the free market and produces a product and takes care of himself with zero government help. A little hypocritical of you isn't it leap.
