Carlson and Cortez agree

  1. While I concede that CNN appears to lean left, they play it far more balanced than anything I have seen on Fox. I don't watch MSNBC so I cannot comment. As for Carlson, he leans way up up Trump's ass.

  2. There is a huge difference between a tax cut that applies to all ( even if you had to be a billionaire to really appreciate it) and a special giveaway to one extremely rich company. The latter is unfair to other companies who don't get the government handout and it is unfair to taxpayers, who end up paying for it even though it does nothing for them.

This sort of thing is more like forcing the public to underwrite pro sports stadiums so billionaire owners don't have to dip into their own funds.

Amazon will transform anywhere it locates it’s headquarters into a vibrant bustling tax generating area. Some of the best and brightest will come to the area and you will see major improvements all around.

Yes. Some tax incentives may be justified for this. Was the incentive package offered by NY or VA fair, idk. But to underestimate what something like HQ2 will do for an area is a mistake.

  4. Oh, so deficit-increasing tax cuts that greatly benefit billionaires, which the Koch brothers themselves actually helped get passed, are perfectly groovy? Such depth, KKK. You're a bespoke tailor with thread and needle.

  5. I didn't support the tax cut and I said republicans were foolish to give a giant tax break to the same Silicon Valley billionaire monopolists who are trying to destroy Trump and silence his supporters.

This is one of those issues, like trade, where the ground shifted suddenly for republicans. Tax cuts were a core issue for decades, but now the base of the party is more and more populist. Maybe that money could have been better used on infrastructure projects. Maybe homeless vets are a bigger priority than the Koch brothers.

Ironically the dems are now the party of big business and staggering wealth. The republicans are the party of wage earners and small business.

  9. As a shareholder of Amazon and a taxpayer in NY, I don't see anything wrong with this practice. everyone and every company have a bidding process, you seek out different vendors and see who can offer you the best deal. pentagon does it, All the oil companies (very rich companies and CEOs) do it for their drilling and explorations. the amount of subsidies and tax breaks that have been given to the oil companies just in Texas is staggering.
This is a normal reaction to hate on and have resentment for successful people. Bezos has earned what he has and didn't get a handout. Crystal City and New York and their residents will benefit from this deal. That's capitalism and honestly, I think one of the better examples of it.

If that were the Ocasio-Cortez logic it would be trivial to argue against it. The statement, as interpreted or paraphrased by Carlson, is a naked appeal to emotion. What happened is Amazon, the Company, negotiated a tax break that is nominally large, but may or may not be large compared to the economic impact of the company, and which will filter down to stock holders in as yet to be found degree. The deal may, or may not, be an advantage to current taxpayers in NY and Virginia. It is virtually certain that its impact, if any, will not be uniformly felt. It may be, once generalized, a win -win, a win-lose, or a wash. It is simply impossible to tell anything from this inflammatory, made for TV, rhetoric. Let cooler heads prevail.
