Careers in I.T.

  1. I was being facetious about the race thing since the other guy was stressing this racial foolishness. On a serious note, I wouldn’t lean on my race to get an opportunity. It’s all about merit with me. Trying to play the race card to get a high paying job is one hell of a gamble.

  2. You fucking dummy. The reason I even mentioned me coding in high school was to show that I’ve dabbled in the field previously. Hell, I even said that I may be out of touch now. But, being the room-temperature IQ moron that you are, you’re going to continue to not only cherrypick my words but also twice them around to suit your cynical, condescending bullshit.

  3. It's not 'maybe', you are out of touch. Go put on that party dress and have a good time. You know you would fail a programming aptitude test.

I believe he's basically retired from the business so his advice on current trends in IT is almost useless. Lot of new opportunities in IT these days; some job types barely existed if at all 10 years ago and there is significant money if you land in the right area.

I worked at a firm like Goldman and was almost given an offer to work at Goldman just before the financial crisis and they enacted a hiring freeze.

They don't have hiring quotas like you are suggesting.

And certainly, a "diversity" hire would unlikely be earning a million dollars/year unless he was producing enough to justify that - which means that he was actually commercially effective at his job (a Goldman term).

  6. At $20 bux an hour you have it made. Sure beats your current job sweeping parking lots at the local fast food outlet.

  7. Dream on. If it's true, she'll train 5-8 offshore indians to do her job at 1/5th the cost. A 25 yr old can tell you everything they know in a couple hours. When complete she'll be looking for a new gig. Eventually her position will be automated anyway.
Unless she's indian or a minority, she'll be fine for a while. Until they find a minority to do it cheaper.
I guess she's not working in Indiana. If it's silicon valley, that's barely enough to qualify to rent an apartment. She may need roommates, many available from offshore companies. Removing curry smell off clothes is a biatch.

The level of delusion and negativity you operate on is off the charts. Just because you failed in some way in the business does not make it a bad career for other people.

  9. You're the delusional one. Visit any fortune 500 IT department and report back. You'll be in for a shock of a life time.

Your view is very narrow. Who aspires to work for a fortune 500 IT department? Go to any small to medium tech company. Guess what...the talent is mostly local. Proof? Read the job listings for the OP's job market. If you know Node and React you can literally have job within a week making six figures. I removed those skills from my LinkedIn profile because I was getting bombarded by recruiters daily asking if I was interested in whatever position they were offering. You may have experience with large corporate IT but there is a big opportunity out there for the OP that you seem unaware of.
