For those that are potentially in the market for a 4 connect per card, I run and recommend the PNY NVS 510. Perhaps it has already been recommended, so add me to the list. Do not be scared by the fan, it is excellent quality and essentially silent at normal operating distance. I was strictly fanless prior FWIW (NVS, EVGA 210's etc).

I run two Antec P280 (previously had P180's) towers for my trading office. Quiet is beyond important for me as I'm aggressive towards the smallest disturbances. At 4 ft distance, using quality 120MM low RPM case fans (Noctua NF-S12A ~10db) and Corsair HX power-supplies, I have a problem discerning if the system with PNY 510 is even on. Need to check the case LED on front face.

If I correctly recall, I purchased here:

I am just getting back to the thread from my experiment with my onboard graphics dual monitor, trying to combine with a dual monitor discrete card to get 4 monitors. It didnt work for me, even after messing around the bios , just would only recognize new card, disabliing the onboard graphics.

What I thought would be different is my motherboard has ATI Hybrid CrossfireX , and in theory if I get the right discrete card (Radeon HD3450), it should have synced up and had 4 monitors. In reality , it did not work for me, but I gave it a shot.

I only have 1 pci 2.0 slot, so really getting 4 monitors now means one card with 4 monitor capability. There is also something else I might try - the USB 2.0 to DVI/VGA adaptor. Seems quick and easy to add monitors as you need them.

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with using one of these adapters for their monitors?

  3. Can you explain "hybrid crossfireX"?

Crossfire itself implies at least 2 PCIEx16 slots to "crossfire together".

This is pretty much what my system has, it combines onboard graphics with one crossfire enabled card, hence, hybrid crossfire. I folllowed what they said could be done, but like I said, it did not work for me. Its all good, Im moving on to next idea.

Edit - see "ATI SurroundView™ Technology". Perhaps if someone else has made this work, I will make another go at it.

  5. Website looks to have contradictory statements. On the one hand, it mentions "multiple display". On the other hand it says"... high-quality gaming images onto a single display...."

    ??

As you have an AMD motherboard, you might want to try the FirePro 2460 quad card.

  6. I've seen the fan and its housing for sale separately... so if this fan fails or gets noisy, looks to be easily replaceable.

One reviewer on Amazon commented that the "NVS 510 seems superior to the NVS 450". Well yeah, it has about 7.5X the horsepower.

  8. I use a different make "SIIG" USB-to-VGA Pro adapter. It looks like both Plugable and SIIG both use DisplayLink chipset? SIIG works okay. Plugable seems less expensive. I like them using the DisplayLink driver software, which integrates with Windows' monitor management (other vendors do a separate app, which were flaky). So it is pretty seamless.

Works okay for charts. No issue. But won't be able to watch netflix/DVD video on the USB-to-VGA monitor.

Ok , I cant believe I got my setup to work, I now have 4 monitor capabilitiy (I only have 3 now, buying 4th monitor tonight) . It looks like I gave up too early on the Intergrated Graphics - HD4200 on my motherboard (asus m4a785td-m evo) and Radeon HD 3450 video card- combination. I will give some details just in case others now or in the future might be helped by this.

I went back into the bios, and I noticed the "Surroundview" was set to auto, but once card is installed in slot, you are able to change it to Enabled. I then updated the ati catalyst software from amd site, and here is where it finally worked- I deselected crossfirex , I dont know why this made it work. Once I did these steps, all monitors blinked on and are now up and running.

I don't know if its the chipset revision on the particular ones I got, but I ran six of my displays from USB and had the problem that occasionally they would shut off and come back on, and unfortunately when it did this it would blank all the screens while it reinitialized. Very disconcerting if you are trying to work while this happens.

I replaced the usb adapters with FirePro 2460 cards, and so far everything is running very smooth.
