It's upsetting to see Trump allied with Putin against the wishes of most Americans. Trump appears to be creating a Police State modeled after Vladimir Putin's Russia. Meanwhile Trump seems not to recognize the existence of another economy as large and as capable as the U.S. and China. It is the European economy outside of Russia. The Europeans are firmly on Ukraine's side and have so far contributed about the same to helping Ukraine as the U.S. has. (If one considers the amount of support per capita, then the U.S. is among the lowest contributors when comparing one nation to another.) The only role Trump could succeed at would be to give Ukraine all it needs to end the war. Then the War would end, Russia would have no choice but to go home, Putin would be forced out, and that would likely end Putin's long cyber war against Western Nations. But Trump wants to extort Ukraine --- the only type of "negotiation" Trump understands. Zelenskyy is wisely rejecting Trump's extortion attempts. Until the Europeans can get more help to the Ukrainians it would seem the killing and senseless destruction will continue, at least so long as Trump and Putin are themselves not on the front lines being attacked by drones.
One thing that's consistently missed by the media and not accounted for in European spending is that Western Europe has taken in by 2024 numbers, 6.4 million Ukrainians, mostly women and kids. This is a very large cost and a hell of a social service and political stress. I believe this is part has kept the EU from recovering vigorously after the pandemic.
