You don't have to uninstall first. Just install the lastest version directly and it will work.

There is another 'trick' you might want to try.

If you have backup file. Just copy tws.xml and paste it to C:\JTS\xxxxxxxxx(Your UserID's Directory). You TWS will log in normally.

After you close and restart the TWS, it turn s bad again.

I guess when TWS is closed, it rewrites the tws.xml file, and corrupts it.

  3. FWIW ... 878 and 879 both seem to be good versions (the last one I really liked before those was 872.6 :))

  4. Yep, that worked.

Not ideal in that most old IB hands say wait a while before installing any new version of TWS.

    hi,

i am having the same ? for quotes and no menu on top problem.

allow me to make a prediction: their user agreement not withstanding, ib is going to get its ass sued / fined / penalized and they are going to clean up their act. their spitting out untested versions is now getting to the gross negligence stage. i have been with numerous brokers over the past 12 years and have never had as many problems as with ib.

  6. For what it's worth, I installed the newest TWS version, Build 878.5, and it corrected a problem like yours. That said, I've had some problems with IB in the last few days that are disturbing, to include being dropped today in the middle of the Fed announcement, and not being able to sign back on.

I then tried to talk to customer service via Live Chat. After 2 hours of waiting for these assholes to get on Live Chat to no avail, I gave up.

Not lawsuit material, but just call me an unhappy camper this evening. Maybe I'll just vote with my feet as they say.

Aren't you the one who bashed me some time ago when IB did the same to me when I was long 60 YM and you told me to STFU and deal with it because the commissions are ridiculously cheap and you launched in to your OldTrader dialtribe about how high commissions used to be...

Its wierd how the universe works!

i was thinking the exact same thing. the guy has been a complete asshole to anyone who has an ib problem and tells them it's because they're incompetent. funny how perspective does a 180 when it happens to you.

to add a data point- it's not server related. i am on the HK server. signed on normal today, had a slowness issue and decided to restart TWS- bam- all ??????'s on my screen. lost the first 20 minutes ofr trading- always the best for me in the HSI- so a material effect on my P&L.

i reinstalled TWS twice- didn't help. only thing that is working is using the browser based. regular version works fine on my backup computer.

the total piss ant way IB handles this shit is what pisses me off. they have known about this problem all day (as per this thread)- no bulletin or anything. i learned that it was a problem by coming to ET and looking in the retail section. if ib operated like it gave a shit about its customers, ET wouldn't be the only way we find out what's going on. we trade for a living, this mickey mouse shit doesn't cut it.

as i've said, i voted with my feet and moved my US market biz away from ib- about $3m a month in business lost for good. my HK business (more than my US business) will be gone as soon as openecry is up and running with SGX and HK- i'll keep ib for backup, nothing more...
