Cancel culture has gone too far

  1. The Nassar joke was not his but he reposted it and left it there and that was stupendously stupid.... Cancelling him might be going to far for a joke directly about someone versus people who demean an entire race or other group. Big difference between a tasteless joke versus something more racial or sexist.

Since it is the summer, I am sure it will blow over.

But I continue to say I don't get this fascination people have with thinking we all give a shit with their posts and they have to put it all out on social media every day... somethings are better left said using your inside voice.

I get it's a repost. I also think comedians get a pass for saying edgy jokes on set, doing stand up, or even on their personal twitter. That joke would've been fine on a routine by Daniel Tosh, Louis CK, Chappelle, or Bill Burr. I haven't watched SNL pretty much ever, just a few sketches, and as far as I remember, that dude does "the news" w/an edge in the show.

This isn't the same as some Disney star cracking the same joke on twitter (not on private) and not expecting repercussions. The nature of your work matters in context.

Cancelling edgy comedy is how you end up w/lames like Jimmy Fallon and Bill "get off my lawn millennials" Maher.

  3. Bill has remained consistent with his contempt for the woke left. I wonder how long he can keep at it before they find a way to silence him.

  4. Definitely a Daniel Tosh or Johnagin type of joke but still think they would not talk about actual real abuse victims but make the joke in general. I dont think comedians should be cancelled for jokes made even if tasteless because that is a judgement of taste versus someone who insults a whole race or class of a customer base. SNL not going to lose customers over Che's retweet haha.

For those not paying attention... the top Entertainment "news" over the past month has been focused around two stories; The Brittany Spears conservatorship battle and the cancelling of Chrissy Teigen.

With Chrissy Teigen... the cancelling continually sinks to new depths. Now even people who design a dress for her are being cancelled. Yep - Cancel Culture has gone too far.
