Bill Maher's warning to the left: Cancel culture is 'real' and 'coming to a neighborhood near you' In age of social media, everyone is a potential Gina Carano, the HBO star says https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/bill-maher-cancel-culture-gina-carano-chris-harrison "Real Time" host Bill Maher closed his show on Friday night by offering a warning to skeptics on the left who don't buy into the existence of "cancel culture." "Liberals need a Stand Your Ground law ... for cancel culture." Maher began the monologue, "so that when the woke mob comes after you for some ridiculous offense, you'll stand your ground, stop apologizing. Because I can't keep up with who's on the s---list." Maher also accused Republicans of "trying to appropriate" the term in response to "just comeuppance for actual crimes," saying their muddying of the water was "unfortunate" because "cancel culture is real, it's insane, it's growing exponentially, coming to a neighborhood near you." "When the woke mob comes after you for some ridiculous offense ... stand your ground, stop apologizing." — Bill Maher "If you think it's just for celebrities, no," Maher asserted. "In an era when everyone is online, everyone is a public figure. It's like we're all trapped in 'The Hills Have Eyes... and Wifi.'" "Is this really who we want to become? A society of phony, clenched-a------ avatars walking on eggshells, always looking over your shoulder about getting ratted out for something that actually has nothing to do with your character or morals?" Maher asked. "Think about everything you've ever texted, emailed, searched for, tweeted, blogged, or said in passing. Or now even just witnessed. 'Someone had a Confederate flag in their dorm room in 1990 and you didn't do anything?' 'You laughed at a Woody Allen movie?'" "Is this really who we want to become? A society of phony, clenched-a------ avatars walking on eggshells?" — Bill Maher The HBO star said Andy Warhol's prediction of the masses seeking "15 minutes of fame" was "wrong," instead it was their "15 minutes of shame." He then cited polls that showed 62 percent of Americans say they are "afraid" to express their political views and that a whopping 80 percent of them believe political correctness is a "problem." "Everybody hates it but nobody stands up to it," Maher complained. "Because it's always the safe thing to swallow what you really think and just join the mob." Maher then listed several recent examples of cancel culture, including the demands calling on Justin Timberlake to apologize to Britney Spears for not being the "perfect boyfriend" as a teenager to the firing of "The Mandalorian" star Gina Carano for invoking the Holocaust on a social media post. "She made some Nazi analogy. Who doesn't these days?!?" Maher exclaimed. "'You're like the Nazis' is the new 'I don't like you.' 'It's always OK when Trump's the Nazi.' ... By the way, you can't work in Hollywood if you don't believe what we believe? Yeah, in the 1950s, that's exactly what the left complained they were being told." He ridiculed "The Bachelor" host Chris Harrison's recent decision to "step away" from his duties to, according to Harrison, get "educated on a more profound and productive level than ever before" after he received backlash for not rushing to condemn a contestant who had been accused of racism for old social media posts. "Oh good ... because all my life I looked up to the host of the 'F--- a Stranger Show,'" Maher quipped. "And if I thought I couldn't count on 'The Bachelor' for moral guidance, I don't know if I could go on." "Mature people understand humans are continually evolving as opposed to Wokeville, where they're always shocked we didn't emerge enlightened from the primordial ooze," Maher said. Maher also mocked the outrage over the 'a------' Abraham Lincoln, who is now in consideration of being "canceled" in Illinois, the Land of Lincoln, after he was formally "canceled" in San Francisco. "Memo to social justice warriors: When what you're doing sounds like an Onion headline, stop," Maher concluded.
Nonsense. I derive all my financial trading news from Twitter. For background stories and analysis I also consult Bloomberg, Reuters, WSJ, DJ News, Nikkei, among others. You get out of Twitter what you make it out to be. I subscribe to channels and posters that provide relevant content. When a market impacting event takes place then no other medium informs me quicker and more reliably about it than Twitter. If you are exposing yourself on Twitter to woke content then you have it set up that way. I only subscribe to relevant news not others' opinions. Even Bloomberg news on the terminal often times does not beat Twitter in regards to timing.

‘Mr Potato Head is cancelled’: Twitter users react as toy goes gender-neutral! https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/02/26/mr-potato-cancelled/ Hasbro has removed the gender from its Mr Potato Head brand, and social media users aren’t happy that the toy has been ‘cancelled’ because of its gender. In 1952, Hasbro launched Mr Potato Head, and it has since become an iconic children’s toy. You originally had to supply your own potato and buy a set of body parts to customise it which cost $0.98. On Thursday, Hasbro announced that its Mr Potato Head is having a rebrand and becoming gender-neutral, revealing that they are dropping the ‘Mr’ from its title. Now, social media users are saying that Mr Potato head has become a victim of cancel culture, and they aren’t happy about it. Toymaker Hasbro announced on Thursday (February 25th) that it would be dropping the word ‘Mr’ from the Mr Potato Head brand to make “all feel welcome in the Potato Head World”. As reported by CNN, the company said: “Hasbro is making sure all feel welcome in the Potato Head world by officially dropping the Mr. from the Mr. Potato Head brand name and logo to promote gender equality and inclusion.” The toys will now just be known as ‘potato head’ and the change will appear on boxes later this year.
How libs want to debate: Con: The sky is blue. Libs: Do you have a source for that? Con: I like pizza. Libs: Do you have a source for that? Con: Google is a search engine. Libs: Do you have a source for that?
The GOP who censured all their Congressmen who voted to impeach... like that kind of silencing speech...
The irony is that liberals consider a completely subjective opinion that is stated on TV or written in a article a source as though it is a fact. Furthermore, I can only assume that you think that MSNBC, CNN, and FOX should shut down. A majority of the programming on MSNBC and CNN are opinion shows. People on those channels express opinions all day everyday without any sources. However, a subjective opinion without source that is expressed on MSNBC is a source?
First of all, that is a completely false equivalent. I think that you know that. Secondly, I am not sure you understand the definition of censure. cen•sure sĕn′shər An expression of strong disapproval or harsh criticism. An official rebuke, as by a legislature of one of its members. To express strong disapproval of or criticize severely, especially in an official capacity: synonym: criticize. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/what-does-it-mean-to-censure-a-politician Censure is a formal disapproval that can be adopted by one, or both chambers of Congress. Unlike impeachment, censure is not a power provided by the Constitution, said Gregory Magarian, a professor of law at Washington University in St. Louis. The House and Senate have adopted internal rules that allow them to draft and approve a censure resolution, which provides a public record disapproving of an official’s actions. Such a resolution is a rebuke, but does not carry any material punishment like removal from office.
When that happens, call them out on it. Right now, you are once again whining without citing a source. Quote where this happened, then someone will be motivated to quote where you've done the same. Anyone can pop all manner of bullshit out of their ass. We can go back and forth all day with unsubstantiated allegations about generalizations "liberals do this;" "cons do that." Point out where someone here has done exactly what you allege, so that that particular person can defend themselves, counter-attack, or admit error. Both sides are guilty of what you say; we can't debate broad, general opinions about general groups. Point the finger, or stop the whining-in-general.
