You make a good point about a national standard for voting. I was assuming a national standard would be "permissive" -- but all you need is some idiots in office to turn it into 'restrictive".

  2. It is illegal to demand a vote in exchange for money or food....."If you vote for Trump I will feed you" illegal.

federal law does not prohibit handing out food or water.

You need to cite the law you magically claim exists.

  4. Let me do GWBs work for him as his attorney:

    §597. Expenditures to influence voting
Whoever makes or offers to make an expenditure to any person, either to vote or withhold his vote, or to vote for or against any candidate; and

Whoever solicits, accepts, or receives any such expenditure in consideration of his vote or the withholding of his vote—

Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if the violation was willful, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.

If you just hand out water to people in line without obligating them to vote or demanding you know their vote, it is NOT illegal

I'm fairly certain I read giving access to portapotties is also of value, so voters in line for 10 hrs will soon need to wear depends too.

Federal law prohibits anyone from knowingly or willfully paying or offering to pay or accepting payment for registering to vote or voting (42 USC § 1973i(c)). It applies to primaries and elections that have candidates on the ballot for the office of president, vice president, presidential elector, or member of Congress, whether or not the violation alleges payment related to a candidate for one of those particular offices. It includes criminal penalties for violations.

And I will admit there are those who take the other side of the issue
Is it legal to hand out food to people waiting in line at voting locations?
Groups and nonprofits around the country have started handing out food to voters waiting in long lines. But what does federal election law say about it?

  8. GA- The new law makes it a misdemeanor to hand out “any money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink” to anyone standing in line to vote. The prohibition extends 150 feet from a polling place and 25 feet from any person standing in line.

It is not illegal under federal or state law to hand water to people, GA now makes it a misdemeanor to do so within 25 feet.

Actually there was information in voting rights acts about access to facilities including bathrooms when waiting to vote -- making this allowed.

  10. You are citing laws without actually reading them GWB....

handing o ut water is not offering to pay for a vote or registering to vote.

READ the laws you are citing and not the headlines.
