Canada’s covid-19 second wave is a humbling moment after a summer of bragging

Oh don't get me started. On my holiday call to my parents my mom started hitting me with her UC Berkeley indoctrination asking "what do you think about what is happening in Florida?". I get this bullshit from her every time I call. She wants a good argument about it but I refuse to indulge her.

I always answer the same way. There is a big sign in front of the largest hospital in this area that shows how many minutes you can expect to wait in the ER to be seen for treatment. When I passed that sign yesterday it said 6 minutes. 'Nuff said.

Some of us love to compare Florida to Canada when it comes to COVID numbers.

"Look at how much better Canada is doing with COVID!" goes the supposed-Mensa chant. "Canada is so much more effective at controlling COVID."

The problem is it isn't just about the virus. Its about quality of life and freedom, which these same people (who put individuals on and off ignore 10 times now to prevent being triggered) refuse to consider. Maybe its because Canada is so much more free?

Can anyone imagine if they told people in Florida that "private gatherings at home were prohibited by law"?

  3. We are in one of those periods now where we don't see Rear-Ender there in Toronto posting everyday to tell us that Toronto is the Mecca of the New World. It runs in cycles. He disappeared when Canada got caught short with ZERO vaccines and had their humbling moment. Pretty embarassing. Their national strategy was to go around the world with their begging bowls. He splained all that by saying that Canada is engaged in the global economy and meets its needs that way- a lame way of saying "we get our stuff from the U.S. and other countries who actually stepped up during the crisis and developed and produced vaccines. We don't do that in Canada, but hey insulin was deveped in Canada in 1924." Yeh, great, and rare albino twin moose were spotted in Manitoba in 1936.

Then he geared up again when eventually Canada robbed the Covax vaccines from the World Health Organization- taking vaccine meant for third world countries and also got some American vaccines, so he was boasting about Canada's leadership role in vaccinating people.

I guess he is in another humbling moment. Poor fellow. Probably he wants to post but Ontario has an order that says you have boil your hands in hot water for twenty minutes everytime you touch the keyboard. Man, that's gotta hurt. Let's show a little compassion, eh.

No doubt Ontario is more fully compliant with that boil-your-hands order than the Americans are so that is a source of pride for them. More likely, he put his mask on to hide his face and headed out for a week in Florida as most Canadians are or would like to do.

I know, right? Like all those people who post how the S&P is going to the moon, and vanish the moment we have a down day.

He's a clown. And on some level, he knows it - which must make for really angry living.

Well lets compare the Covid case rate in Quebec of 1800 cases per million people to the case rate in Florida of 174,790 cases per million people. While we are at it we can compare hospitalization rates.

ianmSC is an idiot, why don't you get your information from proper mainstream sources -- rather than Covid-denier clowns on social media and blogs.

Florida's Covid cases per million are nearly 100 times the level in Quebec. What is the nonsense you are yammering about.

  10. If so, then apparently both Eric Swalwell and AOC pre-determined that Florida was sufficiently safe for them to vacation and party there this past week. Because we know they follow the science unlike the neanderthal republicans, eh.
