Ford (Ontario premier) made a mistake in re-opening too soon when the science (prediction models) told him not to do it. He did such via pressure to do such and now he strongly regrets his decision to re-open too soon or not using the proper restrictions. The Québec premier François Legault did something similar but when we were closed...we didn't really have any restrictions and the science was conflicting. For example, there was a study that air purifiers in schools did not help nor help in business while at the same time...businesses / schools that did not have air purifiers...they had 3 - 4x more Covid cases. https://montreal.ctvnews.ca/quebec-...ases-says-dad-running-citizen-count-1.5400739 (Note: The study was done by one civilian to contrast the original study done by an organization that routinely study airborne diseases and air purifiers). When the Pandemic started...I stopped my teenagers from taking the bus to / from school. Instead, I take them to school myself and pick them up from school...I use a portable air purifier in my auto on those days when its too freezing cold to drive with the car windows down. I strongly believe the contradiction in the science occurred because when they say air purifiers don't work...businesses / schools were using air purifiers that were not certified / fake or position improperly in the business / school along with the fact that they needed to be maintained. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/quebec-school-covid-rules-masks-air-purifiers-1.5866404 Then again, maybe they work just fine and the issue is that the lazy restrictions allowed teenagers to become infected prior to school and younger adults before they get to work. wrbtrader
Trump was wrong...drinking bleach does not work. He still caught Covid and needed to be hospitalized. Maybe that's why others members in his family and the White House administration caught Covid...they all were drinking from the same bleach container. Sarcasm wrbtrader
its pretty funny to see the trolls blame Trump supporters for Covid in the U.S. but their govt in Canada. The whole time... it was the crazy lockdown approach. The govt had 2 legit choices... a. extinguish the virus via lockdown and keep the borders sealed. b. protect the high risk better and get to herd immunity in the healthy low risk. If you are locking down but not extinguishing the virus... your policy was as stupid and dangerous as could be.
You would think that Canada's public health laboratories would do a better job of controlling COVID in their own facility. 19 employees contract COVID-19 after outbreak at Public Health Ontario's Toronto laboratory https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/19-emplo...health-ontario-s-toronto-laboratory-1.5400939 TORONTO -- The University Avenue laboratory of Public Health Ontario, which provides testing for a variety of diseases including COVID-19, has an outbreak of its own, the agency confirmed to CTV News. More than a dozen people were infected in the downtown Toronto laboratory in the MaRS Centre, only about 100 meters from Queens Park, as experts raised questions about potential breaches of protocol that may have made that possible. “As of this morning, 19 Public Health Ontario laboratory employees have tested positive for COVID-19, and all are currently recovering at home,” said the agency in a statement to CTV News on Friday. “PHO is working closely with Toronto Public Health and following their recommendations as they continue to investigate these cases,” the statement says. Dr. Anna Banerji of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health wondered whether this is an incident of community spread, or whether the disease was somehow acquired through an infection from laboratory tests itself. “I think this is an airborne virus and it’s more infectious than we give it credit for. There’s no surprise it’s in a public health lab,” said Dr. Banerji. “And if this is airborne maybe they need different kinds of precautions,” she said. Public Health Ontario said that the outbreak is among a small subset of its around 1,000 employees, and said its laboratory testing regime has not been interrupted. The Public Health Ontario lab is among a growing number of workplaces affected as Toronto’s workplace infection count rises to 60, including a chocolate manufacturer, a car dealership, and three Canada Post sites, including a depot on Ray Avenue and an ongoing outbreak on Eastern Avenue. Memory is still fresh from the deadly Canada Post Gateway outbreak that infected hundreds and left at least one dead, with the union telling CTV News that it’s long past time to vaccinate postal workers who work in mail-sorting facilities. “We will continue to take all necessary actions to make sure Canada Post is prioritizing the health and safety of members,” said Jan Simpson, the CUPW national president. “These outbreaks highlight the importance of getting postal workers vaccinated as soon as possible.” Variants of concern are driving much of the spread. Public Health Ontario also confirmed late Friday that 36 cases of the B.1.617 variant that was first detected in India were discovered in Ontario in the last few days, a day after flights from India and Pakistan were temporarily banned. Public health officials urged people to stay home, as asymptomatic spread is still a possibility. “You don’t know if you’re a super spreader,” said Dr. Brenda Coleman of the Canadian Immunization Research Program. “There are too many people that may have silent infections. You could be the problem.”
Oh man, the Toronto public health lab is a super-spreader. Clearly that does not have a good look to it. More humility needed on the part of the Canadians. We continue to be told that Toronto is the Mecca of North America where there are no clouds in the sky. We are sending advisors to India. Might need to send some up to Toronto. Maybe send a hospital ship up to Toronto too. Although I don't think the ice will be out for another two months so there is that to deal with. It's the thought that counts though.
LOL this dumb ass thinks there is ice in Toronto now and for another two months. One of the dumbest things anyone has ever posted on this site. Tuesday the high will be 20 degrees Celsius here, which is almost room temperature. I know there are a lot of American fools who think Toronto has really cold weather but they should look at a map sometime. Might help them stop making a fool of themselves online like this hapless ignorant soul TreeFrogTrader. Oh, the shame for Maine every time he posts.
In other news, Americans are still banned from nonessential travel to Canada as they have been for a year running. And we aren't exactly welcoming Quebec residents with open arms yet either. What you haven't figured out yet is that when it got worse in Ontario, it was from a base that was far better then almost anywhere in North America, including Quebec. So while the US approaches 1800 Covid deaths per million residents, I'll try not to be concerned about Ontario well under 600. Actually, I'm not concerned at all. But thanks for trying.
I think you meant "we aren't exactly welcoming Québec residents with open cheeks"... Early in the Pandemic...I talked about the instilled "double cheek kissing" habit will be a huge issue to overcome for us Québécois. In mid-March 2021...I saw old habits returning again in stores. On several occasions I would see a woman friend I had not seen for many months during the Pandemic...she would pull down her face mask for the traditional cheek kissing to only be met with one of my "elbow bumps". I started to think...if more people are doing that (pulling down their face mask indoors for the traditional cheek kissing)...we're going to have a big Covid surge especially when we're under attack by the variants of Covid. Yet, the new restrictions and more store warnings (many stores had taken down the warnings) and curfew hours has finally has Québec going in the right direction again (Covid numbers are declining). wrbtrader
