Canada’s covid-19 second wave is a humbling moment after a summer of bragging

Still safer to be here though. Funny how that works. Apparently vaccinating people can't overcome the problems that occur when a significant proportion of the population refuses to take safety precautions seriously or even worse thinks it's all a hoax.

Vaccine nationalism isn't going to solve the Covid problem it has to be solved on a global basis. No room for selfishness on this. I understand a dummy like TreeFrogTrader is a hopeless cause but when Canada makes medical discoveries we share them with the planet ( e.g. Insulin ). If you read the dummies post he seems to infer he's somehow personally responsible for inventing/manufacturing vaccines and that Canada's medical community hasn't contributed anything to the world ever. Neither is remotely true. But he's a dummy so it hardly matters.

In many ways rapid roll out of the vaccines was extremely important in the US given other factors in play. Canadian govt needed firmer contracts and better planning on the vaccines but once shit started hitting the fan things are really rolling now.

Any experienced / educated expert on the planet about Pandemics and vaccines will strongly agree with you.

Covid and its sprouting children (variants) will only be solved like any other diseases (e.g. measles) via a global effort and not the my country only.

In fact, many world leaders have discussed such including President Biden. They all understand that "vaccine nationalism" will weaken many countries on so many levels including economically.
Trump didn't understand the above. Thankfully, he paid the price in so many ways for his ignorance.

The Biden / Harris administration gets it which is why they're sharing and plan to share more after all the U.S. citizens are vaccinated to reach the 70% threshold of Vaccine Herd Immunity.

53% of Canadians on the brink of insolvency: MNP survey

    The party is over.

A new survey by MNP Ltd. has found that 53 per cent of respondents said they are $200 or less away from not being able to meet all of their monthly bills and debt obligations. The number is alarming as it marks a five-year high in the agency's consumer debt index and marks a 10-point jump from a December survey.

This number includes the 30 per cent who said they are already insolvent, with no money left over at the end of the month.

Government support programs offered up a little financial flexibility over the past year but, at best, these programs were intended to be temporary. In many ways COVID-19 benefits masked the seriousness of Canadians who were drowning in debt.

“The anxiety Canadians are feeling about making ends meet - or already unable to do so - tells us we may eventually see an avalanche of households falling behind on payments or defaulting on loans, mortgages, car payments or credit cards,” said Grant Bazian, president of MNP LTD, in the report published Thursday.

Not much different than the U.S. with "43.9 percent of American households are teetering on the edge of financial collapse."

  6. OH CANADUH!!!!!

Another day but data still not lookin pretty.

This is going to leave a mark with a couple of the fake Canadians here.

Better keep both of them on suicide watch, also watch to be careful that they do not die of covid.

On the plus side, some of them are reporting that they are taking, and Canada is beginning to receive massive amounts of the Trump vaccines. So we are helping them to keep their numbers down all while they are getting superior with us. That's how they got in this pickle in the first place- ie. by excessively watching Americans in trouble and crowing about it rather than getting their own shiite together.

Wouldn't it be nice if instead the Canadians had developed at least one vaccine to help us and the world out. I guess that is why we are the mothership and they are the colony.

    Oh, the shame.

Canada Is About to Surpass the US in COVID Rates, WTF
On April 8, Canada reported 185.2 cases per million population, while the U.S. posted 199.56 per million population, based on rolling seven-day averages, according to Our World in Data.

  7. IT'S HAAAAAAAPPENING!!!!!!

The very thing that the fake Canadians feared the most- ie. that the covid infection rate for Canada would surpass the US. No doubt a couple of our forum members are out on a ledge right as we speak. Let us have some compassion for them.

For the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak began, Canada’s rate of new cases of the novel coronavirus has eclipsed that of the United States.

    WELCOME TO TORONTO!!!!!

Well Canada loosened up restrictions and sent kids back to school... and this is the result.

Keep in mind that Canada still has done far better than the U.S. over time in dealing with Covid... ignoring of course Canada’s lack of vaccine issue.

According to your moronic ideas... if they did not have all those irresponsible people... then they would not have to lockdown multiple times and destroy immunities again. a laughable misunderstanding of how viruses work if it were not so serious.

Ontario keeps destroying whatever immunities they could be building up on their low risk population with their lockdowns.

It has not worked twice three times ... so lets do it again.

So dumb. They just got out of lockdown in March... Of course the virus surges what a target rich environment for the virus they create.... over and over.

    Fricken insanity.

Try anything but this crap which is clearly failing.

How about letting the healthy and low risk acquire some immunity if they are willing to do go out an live with smart ideas like distancing...
and protect the high risk much better.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_pandemic_in_Ontario
In early September 2020, the province showed a significant increase in new cases, along with similar spikes in provinces across the country.[9] Throughout the month of October, Ontario began to reintroduce some restrictions, with a focus on controlling spikes in the hotspots of Toronto, Peel Region, York Region and Ottawa. The province later rolled back its lifting of restrictions in hotspot regions with temporary measures, referred to as a modified Stage 2. In early November, the province unveiled a new five-tiered colour-coded response framework. The framework was created initially in contradiction to the metrics suggested to political officials by Public Health Ontario[10] and later amended by the province to lower thresholds in each category.[11] From late November to mid-December, the province began placing regions in rolling lockdowns, culminating in a province-wide shutdown beginning Boxing Day.[12] Due to the post-winter holiday surge of new infections, Premier Ford declared Ontario's second state of emergency on January 12, 2021,[13] which was lifted February 10,[14] and a stay-at-home order effective January 14,[13] which was phased out regionally between February 10 and March 8.[14] Regions then returned to individual categories in the response framework.
