Canadians took American strangers into their homes and those who didn't...paid for their stay at hotels in nearby Canadian towns/cities to the airport where U.S. planes landed. Some Americans who were stranded in Canada from those flights but needed to get back to the United States for emergency reasons...were given free transportation by auto back to the United States...directly to their home as if it was like a taxi service... I know a U.S. military colonel who's flight was stranded in Canada. He was driven by Canadian military soldiers who were on vacation...on their vacation time they drove that Colonel, ensuring he had no hiccups at the border, all the way back to his home at Fort Bragg North Carolina. Simply, they were there in our time of need when we needed help and they volunteered that help while asking for nothing in return...some of the people you rudely refer to as "leeches". America has always been a powerful country...the most powerful country trying to spread Democracy to the world even when many countries did not want Democracy. A bargain was struck many many years ago that America leads and finances NATO for the spread of that Democracy and America's agenda.
