The Quebec separatist ideas have weakened considerably the last 20-30 years. Of course Quebec cannot operate independently within Canada and enjoy the benefits of being part of Canada. Doesn't stop certain politicians to pandering to such thoughts and conveniently ignoring the realities that would also incur in such an event. At times in the 1980s there was a blackmail aspect to it and many of us simply thought go ahead then leave; the federal Liberal government was funneling far too much money into Quebec at the time to appease the province and support their many MPs there. Surely Brexit, Covid, and the instability during the Trump years is a warning to these kind of fanciful ideas. While there may be a significant portion of Quebec that fancies the idea of their own country, the majority see themselves as firmly a part of Canada. A growing majority according to any polls on the subject.

We all have our own preference in life. For example, I'm glad I don't have to tolerate the lower quality of life and infrastructure in Spain beyond a few weeks in the past.
