If it's possible, which interfaces and devices do it?

Yes, but why would you want to do that?

When you manage to set it up it is very slow due to the great amount of data that is required for booting. (using an USB HD)

Thanks Sherlock, I have to travel a lot later, so my whole setup would be a notebook and one external backup device. I know USB is slow but at least better than die. Does XP support booting with faster interfaces like USB 2.0 or fireware?

I have an IBM A31 which has two bays that can hold an battery, CD/DVD, floppy, HD. Same as that originally the Tecra 500 had.

So I have a second hard disk in one bay and in the other the DVD/CD player and boot from CD. Fastest way: can do a restore in < 10 minutes inclusive synchronising "data" and rebooting /logging in. have posted more on this in the past, as well as my mentor did (bali_survivor, the father, not the present one who is the daughter)
