Why would this be the case? Bush have lowered taxes, but still dont manage. This isnt the Reagan years where taxes were complicated and too high. In US you see too huge differences now between the poor and the rich. Its gone so far as to statistics showing that if you are born poor, you have almost no chance at succeeding in the US. The land of the free have turned into the land of the rich and powerful. I mean you cant even live off a 10 hour salary. Obama has a vision of creating a power balance. Which is what the US needs. It needs healthy workers and foundation for learning. That is what would bring back the multinationals to the US in my head. OR

The US is probably the most socialist country in the western world. No other place will you find more complicated government system, surveillance and little flexibility. Nor lack of freedom for so many groups of people. Also forgot to say lack of ownership rights. I mean as us citizen you cant even own foreign shares without having a company. Certainly the growth of government the last couple of decades has been of great detriment to the country's well being. To call the US the most corrupt country in the western world is a ridiculous statement. You must not live in Europe as I do half the year (and grew up there too) or read European newspapers to make such a statement. The Europeans take pandering to their special interests to a heretofore not seen in the US.
Abolishing the IRS will have no effect. Who cares which entity steals from us. If benevolent dictator, I would say to each govt dept. "Your revenue was just halved. Deal with it."
Bush lowered some taxes and thank goodness he did when he did or we would be in recession right now. He didn't go nearly far enough and he should have been more progressive in the tax cuts (even lower taxes for lower incomes, elimination of the AMT). The real problem was that he simultaneously outspent any other president in history. Simplistically the reason that low income wages are barely sufficient to live on is that the $ is worthless and everything is imported. The other reason is that wages at the bottom of the spectrum are substantially depressed by the black economy of immigrants who work for so little that Americans are not able to demand liveable wages. A rising tide raises all boats, this was proved by both Reagan and Clinton. The way to lower the rich -poor divide is to be aggressive in lowering taxes at the low end of the income spectrum and to give parents vouchers and choice so that schools have accountability to those who care about their kids education and not people in Washington who don't. Also lower corporate taxes and make the US more friendly to businesses so that people will have a good job to look forward to. All the talk about Obama is talk of vision, feeling, dream, hope etc. Its so that none of his policies are objectively looked at. While I coted for Clinton it was the same tactic that he used to get elected. Divert people's attention from objectively discussing policy and get them to luxuriate in the good feelings of hope and dreams. The US is perfect for this type of campaign tactic as very few want to face reality. The irony will be that Obama could pull it off with Clinton's own tactics. Another thing that Obama has going for him is that he is being called a bridge between GOP DEMs and Independents based on the turnout in Iowa. My guess is that he is getting GOP support in the caucuses and primaries because the GOP don't want to have to face Hillary in the election and would love to face Obama (they may have miscalculated but I think that is probably why he has strong GOP support relative his DEM opponents).
