I read a research article a long time ago which concluded that the options at expiration move price but it was mere cents, hardly anything that you could trade on.
Most likely due to the fact that there are: Hundreds of optionable US stocks with high volume. Option expiry every week. Option strikes very close together. A stock ending the week at an option strike is inevitable.
