There is a file named tws.vmoptions in the directory (Jts) where your TWS is installed. If you add the parameter "-DskipUpdateCheck=true" then there will be no auto update. But if you manually update the TWS this file gets overwritten and you have to add the parameter again.
The have included quite a lot of changes in this last version, my code base has suffered a little bit for a couple of days. Also my TWS settings don't work any more and had to re-arrange the GUI layouts. Well, their software is shit, we know that. If we use IB we have to deal with it. If I were American I would have moved already to another broker, but I don't have that many brokers with access to the CME markets around here.
I'm open to suggestions... anyone you know of that has a decent API and offers comparable rates/commissions? Bear in mind, you generally don't have to upgrade each time a new crappy version comes out.
I heard Tradestation does not beat you that badly, but I can´t tell, just I see that people are not that angry with them. Maybe some of your fellow countrymen can chip in?
IDK, the tradestation api specs just don't look nearly as complete as IB's. They have no tiered commissions, no trial/paper account I can find, and their global solution just looks like it's reselling IB. I think ThinkOrSwim/TD is a better candidate but still probably a downgrade. Anyone else have more suggestions? I'll give you a $50 finders fee if I switch.
THIS WORKED (!!) Specifically, I opened the tws.vmoptions file in Text editor, and added the following: Is this what you were advocating doing? (Either way...it seems to have worked?) So I went to the PC that had auto-updated, un-installed TWS completely, then used the installation file I still had for a previous version (10.12.2x), ran the Install but before launching TWS for the first time inserted the line above in the tws.vmoptions file in the JTS directory, then launched TWS and it didn't auto-update (and the order submission that the new version had broken works again!) Suspect it will fix all the other nonsense this buggy update seems to have introduced as well.
