It won't work. I want to have separate performances for each lets call them "sub_accounts". The way that you are saying just lists the stocks or options in separate pages and once you trade them, they go to your portfolio page. Lets assume that I have 100K in my total account and I have 90K in my risky and 10K in non-risky accounts. The only effect that I want from my non-risky account to my risky account is daytrading feature (over 25K) but I want to have separate SMA in each account so if I do crazy trades in my risky account and lose money, I want IB to treat it as a separate account and liquidate me if it is needed. This feature can be optional.
Thats exactly how it worked til about 8 years ago. I had opened 2 accnts for this very reason. Just to limit my risk (due to holding overnites). Unconnected accounts, margin calculated for each separately. Unfortunately this feature was cancelled, when they moved part of their administration to the UK. Regards Hittfeld
I posted my suggestion in IB feature poll last night (twice) and for some reason it does not show up. My name in Ib feature is "hajimow". I have don it before and two of my suggested features were implemented. I don'y think it should take a while to show up the suggested features. I would appreciate if someone can spend some time and post the suggestion and let everyone including me know so we can vote for it and hopefully it gets implemented.
I don`t know if IB could reimplement this feature - even if they wanted to: IB is subject to at least 3 fiscal jurisdictions (US, UK, CH) and a plethora of regulating bodies due to the sheer number of markets and instruments that are served by a single account (actually 1 universal account is always 2 accounts!!). Not every jurisdiction will allow 2 separate accounts at the very same bank/broker. But why not use a different type of account construction for the second one? Regards ittfeld
Thanks for the feedback. Do you mean open another account with IB? That will be my last option. Most probably I will do that. I wanted to take the profit out of my risky account and put it in non risky account and don't mix them so I could visually see hwo they grow.In my non risky account I will not do quick trades. One problem would be to login back and forth between accounts. I believe I can not be logged in two IB accounts with one PC. Am I wrong?
My suggestion is now added to IB's feature poll. The ID is 5083. Please read it and if you like it, please vote. Thanks http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/general/poll/poll.php?sid=5083
