Can hedge funds offer what prop firms offer?

Discussion in 'Prop Firms' started by giggollo, Oct 17, 2006.

  1. If a trader with a solid track record is looking for capital backing, can he go to a hedge fund and have them fund his remote trading operation, not on a salary basis, but on a profit split or commissions generation basis in much the same way that a prop firm does? Does this happen in the real world?

  2. sure its possible. will it happen? probably not.

I know Millennium Partners, a big hedge fund in NYC, allow some of their traders to trade remote and share profits. But you can't start remote right away. First you have to trade in their office for sometime and make some money before they trust you to trade remote.

In the end, it all depends on how much money you make for them.
