What has become clear overnight is that many cities are setup such that the city counsel can override the mayor and institute this kind of change legally. Only elections or outside intervention can stop them. I think this means that we will actually see the police disbanded in certain areas. Minneapolis is almost certainly going to defund but its not clear if they will literally disband the police or just change the uniforms. Minneapolis' police union president said "we object to the unicorn outfits. the horn will interfere with our night-vision equipment and its hard to get into our squad cars."
