Not just CA....but the current Obama roadmap guarantees a Euro-Japan world.... An L shaped future economic movement....along with a somewhat similar "Denmarkish" Euro twist has just been cut in stone.... I like Obama because he is self made....however with no proper structural change....his presidency will not be helpful to moving back to the older and highly respected USA.... Which was built on "making" and "selling" things to the world.... ................................................................................... The structure of the tax code as it applies to the writing off of interest over the life of capital equipment purchased is what (among other things) clearly hurt the Manufacturing sector in this Country. It's really pretty simple. But for some reason, the last Administration seemed to think that a better "policy" for the manufacturing sector was to just allow the Dollar to get cut in half. 2/3rds of our countries GDP comes from the consumer. The politicians in DC better figure out a way to get the Manufacturing sector growing again and exporting around the world, otherwise I'm afraid that we are gonna be in deep doo-doo for quite some time to come.
The pivotal years of US I always think were 1850 to 1890. It progressed through a sadly very necessary and unbelievably bloody civil war in order to unify the resources of the country into one nation. Once this stage was well on it's journey it began 'dumping' manufactured goods onto the European markets. The Europeans were horrified of course, but appreciated the quality and particularly the prices. And so they began to surrender their manufacturing in favour of lower imported prices. The money from the exports and the experiences learned from the bloody civil war enabled US to embark on a journey of expansion, ultimately morphing into empirical desires. How strange can this be? The meat of the argument is not whether there are states with a percent higher taxes or not.... The point is that the CA state government has hosed things up... that's why there is a $40 Billion deficit. Why are you so defensive? You didn't do it.
You posted this thread with the title of California... Roadmap to Socialism in the USSA did you not??? I thought that SOCIALISM was your point, but all you have done is point to taxation as the issue and for some bizarre reason conveniently refrained from addressing any of the budgetary issues that plague this State ( among others ) when it comes to guaranteed pensions for State employees, and the way in which the state's welfare and medical resources are completely strained because of the FEDERAL LAWS that Congress refuses to address when it comes to illegal immigration. Again, your credibility is quite lacking when it comes to many of the issues that you post here on ET, and it's really getting old my friend. It usually contains some sort of philosophical and political "rant" but falls quite short when it comes to having a comprehensive, yet specific understanding of the issue.

Let's face it, he has no idea what he's talking about - - - as evidenced by referencing and lumping Federal taxes in with California's so-called "high taxes". Everyone pays federal taxes. If that isn't twisted "logic" I don't know what is. By the way, one of the reasons that the California State budget took so long to get done is because all of the "tax and spenders" are done after this next year and don't have to be held accountable due to term-limits. That's why it took 3 months to get done.
