You can bet your ass the SEC will jump on it! That was first thing that popped into my mind when I heard this... 'now these California teams might finally get ranked since they'll be recruiting the best HS kids in the nation.' Trust me on this one... you can bet your right nut that ain't flyin' in Tuscaloosa.
Saban will have the Governor donating 100,000 acres of state land to Nike so they can build a new sweat-shop there. Maga!
Upon second thought, this wouldn't work. College athletics revolve around college football and the revenue that it generates. There are only 7 FBS level football programs in California. Top talent won't go to FCS level schools like Sacramento State or UC Davis just because they can make money off of jersey & autograph sales. They would probably have to convince the other states from the Pac-12 to join them to make this feasible.
Take the endorsement money, wait for a game where your team is favored to win by a mile, grab one or two bff fellow endorsee teammates, go all in at some overseas betting outfit... then throw the f'n game. Making college sports great again.
I’m sure most schools are against this, it’s a great money maker and these young athletes having access to representation that will guide their individual careers is definitely not in the schools interest.
I’m sure but it won’t take very long for a group of high school basketball all Americans to transform schools like UC Davis into an NBA level team. That growth would spur football and within 10 years California would have a lock on college sports. Look at what the Fab 5 did for Michigan in the 90s.
