California - Shithole. Leads nation in poverty

  1. Extrapolate a little.

There is a point past which a country becomes dysfunctional.

I live in Colombia (the country) mostly, I make over 4 million USD a year and I'm ok rich, not the richest around by hundreds of millions but ok. In California? I'm a relative pauper in the equivalent neighborhoods. That is insane.

In Colombia there are some socialist rules that keep the middle class pretty broad. For example monthly rent is capped at 1% of the value of the property. Its not great but it helps stop (slow..) areas become run-away expensive. Property speculation here is massive, but it could be a lot worse. Colombia might be a shit-poor country by comparison but the lowest earners here are way better off than in the US I feel. Far mentally happier people.

My GF is a university professor and she was able to buy her own 3 bed 100 square meter apartment in a good area of the city. Inconceivable in much of the west now.

Look at the video posted before, it is not partisan I believe. Explain to me where the bottom 20% are going to get a dollar between them in another 20 years.

So how is it Walmart's fault that you are a relative pauper in some California neighborhoods?

This is the problem I have with some of your (and others, to be fair) statements. You focus on the nodule on the proverbial skin and go after that, while the underlying cancer rages below.

  3. Really? Is the video I posted a fair representation of the US right now? If close, who made it like this? the lazy poor or the oligarch class who own both con and dem parties? Who has Trump actually helped? Surprise!

I'm not a Marxist, I'm a capitalist but.. I believe this hating on the poor is a dreadful distraction. The US needs a middle class again, these poor wretches in the tents are not the problem, they are a symptom of the richest Cons and Dems wringing every cent they can.

    Nice try Con

Combined population of those two Bangaldesh's is 9 million as opposed to Colorado's 6 million.

3 million is a slight difference?

    LOL

  6. Pull the other one matey, of course I've never heard of a republican saying the poor deserve their poverty, nossir. ;)

In the 1960s, 70s, 80s even the bottom 20% had potential social mobility with hard work and 'moxie'. Now breaking out of the lowest class is more like winning the lottery.

Telling someone living in a trailer to work harder in most places, may as well tell a man with a broken leg to walk it off. They have no hope, there is nothing to work with anymore for a guy with an IQ of 90. That is what, 26% of the population on a SD? These are the low level workers.

The oligarchy sucked up the money, they took it from the bank accounts of the middle class. Both parties are their bitches.

There is a left and there is a right and both are in the same car going off the same cliff.

Can you show me an example on this forum where a republican is saying the poor deserve their poverty?

Agreed, but I don't think this is because Walmart is paying $12/hr.

Those people should probably relocate to areas of the country where they can make what little income they have go a little further. When someone decides to be poor in an area of California that kills their income with taxes and high cost of living, I don't have a lot of sympathy.

No argument on that last statement. Nice to see you every once in a while pointing out how it's right and left, and not just your usual right bashing.

  8. Here is an example for you:

"Those people should probably relocate to areas of the country where they can make what little income they have go a little further. "

To me you are saying they have options they don't exercise, it is their own fault. It costs a lot to move, leaving whatever network you have is very very hard.

I work with homeless quite a lot now when I can, time, always need time. They don't freeze to death in Colombia but it is no picnic. When I think back to the "why can't they just do xyz" rebuttals I used to find an excuse.. my ignorance of what it is really like when you are down like that shames me.

If people choose to live in an area where they cannot afford to live well, then yes, that is a choice. I moved, with barely any money, several times throughout my life to better my situation. It wasn't easy, and it required planning, but it can be done.

So easy to whine that "it's not my fault".

I can't exactly blame inequality simply because some poor chap wants to live in Silicon Valley, but can't afford it.

Having seen the income of plenty people in Rancho Sante Fe or Del Mar or LaJolla which are some of the most expensive zips. I know you could live in those neighborhoods easily. Some people may have assets of greater value than you but your income is very strong.

    Congratulations on that.
