California dreamin'

  1. If the FEDS and Congress were to enforce the laws already on the books, this wouldn't be such a drain on the resources of the State.

Meanwhile, I have seen estimates that the illegal immigration population is costing the state's taxpayers more than $10.5 billion per year for education, medical care, and/or incarceration. This is based on Census date that is 5 years old.

  2. I have gift certificate from golden corral from December that I have not used because I cannot find a parking space every time I go by. Lots of hispanic and black customers in addition to everyone else. It is by far the busiest spot. The food is not that good.

  3. Never heard of Golden Corral.
They must not be in NorCal or the Bay Area.
Their website says that the closest location is down in Tracy . . .
    50 miles away. :)

Some of it is reasonably good, at least the one time I went. Buffets aren't the best way to get a tasty meal, but Golden Corral is pretty good for a buffet place.

  5. Last week in Contra Costa County they had to put the jail on "lock-down" because there were not enough Sheriff's patrolling out in a town called Oakley one evening.

They actually took the few remaining officers off jail duty and put them out in the field. One Sheriff said that he had never seen this happen in all of his 21 years as a county Sheriff.

The county deficit is at a "manageable" $56 million and can't hire enough county Sheriffs. Meanwhile, Alameda County has a deficit of $178 million, and San Francisco County is at $440 million.

The State has long been pilfering the 9 Bay Area counties for Funds.

LOL---You're not just a wee bit prejudice, are you? Were there any American Indians or Orientals, or maybe some handicapped folks?

  7. Granted. I like Bellingham, WA, but folks I spoke to there all seemed to have a second home in Palm Springs! An old GF lives in Spokane & my ex-partner says its a good spot. I will check that out.

Reno is a big wide spot in the road, no doubt, but the weather isnt horrible, skiing is nearby & I can be in Socal within 1 day's drive. I like Verdi, NV, which is just across the CA/NV border (actually might straddle the State line). Plus, there seems to be a fair number of single women in Reno. I want to keep the taxes low & not be too far from Socal. I suspect NV will get a decent influx of retirees giving themselves a "raise" by leaving Cali. I worry about the weather in WA - i noticed when I lived in Germany that the long stretches or "gray days" made me feel bad.
