What about all the poor CPA's, tax lawyers, tax collectors, etc. that would have to find other work if a consumption tax replaced income tax?
California could solve its problem in 1 day. Simply shut all payments to the Federal govt. payments which are abundantly re-distributed to above mentioned Sh*t holes. The only reason you can buy your cheap house is because you are subsidized by Californian tax payers. Just like Alaska residents are indirectly subsidized by California tax payers. And to reiterate. The only people on this board whining about California are people who don't live here. You all live in Southern welfare subsidized hell holes. Without farming subsidies paid to these states at the expense of Californian taxpayers, you'd be living in trees.
You seem to be the only one whining about California.....jebbushchristlolatbushites or whatever your handle is.
I'm native californian through and through, but calling the South a "shithole" or a "hellhole"? Get a clue, the South rocks. Its the northeast and chicago that suck relentlessly. Seattle is full of moonbats too.
I hate to admit this but you are in a sense correct. However California like most states spend like drunken sailors. If you think people are whining now wait until the feds bail out California's fiscal irresponsibility.
1. Ca gov't has been over spending for since the 80s. But, the massive profits made by tech and then real estate taxes - prevented the day of reckoning. The democrats have spent their ass off know it was not sustainable - but that is how they have stayed in power spending on minorities and their alien friends. it was a disgusting sell out of the greatest state in the world. 2. Real Estate prices on the coast hitting new highs? Where. Rancho Santa Fe - perhaps the most sought after address in the world screwed with years worth of inventory and almost zero sales. I predict a forty to fifty percent drop in prices. Part of the reason - owners can't sell their other luxury properties outside of RSF. 3. North county San Diego is conservative but the city may have termed liberal. The city has been run by by corrupt idiots and that has been well documented. Many of the politicians have been very liberal. San Diego's elected officials gave out great government salaries and pensions in exchange for short term votes. 4. California is still the best place I know to start a small business and make money quickly. The problem is once they people start making good money they "relocate" their main residence and perhaps business headquarters to another state. I am starting to make some good money again. I am already consider 'legal" tax strategies. Feds fica and medicare 15% Income 38-42% State 10% Local Sales 8 something % Property tax probably equals 8-10% of month income for most. Gas, beer and other taxes Personally I think we are a few tax percentages away from cratering the whole economy.
Nice summation of the problem, JEM, thanks. I remember a similar thread to this one several months back, and there were quite a few defenders and excusers for the California debacle....possible even 50-50. But to my surprise this thread only has had a couple of Cali defenders. I'm wondering if the reasons Cali is in such a mess have become so obvious that it is futile to try to deny any longer. If so, that would be progress. Stosh
No, "kalifornia" as a state, pays more to the federal govt. than it receives in subsidies. Unlike Sh*t hole southern states like Mississippi or Alabama that get more in Federal aid than they pay out. i.e "Kalifornian" taxpayers subsidize your lifestyles. Again, the only people on this board worried about "kalifornia" are trailer trash monkeys who don't live here. I'm highlighting the hypocrisy of these trailer living southern monkeys who mouth off about socialism when they can't even spell the word correctly. http://www.southernstudies.org/2009...ederal-money-to-nc-banks-southern-states.html n addition to the $98 billion AIG spent paying off banks, a smaller share -- $12.1 billion -- was used to pay off obligations to municipalities that were holding their money with AIG. Six Southern states were among the top 20 places getting money from AIG for this purpose, totalling $2.1 billion: Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Florida and Texas. Socialism is the only reason these people have a trailer to being with. Otherwise you'd be living under a mesquite tree like Africans in the sahara. "kalifornia" and the rest of the states that are net payers to these sh*t holes should turn off the welfare tap. Problem solved. And it'll happen in a few years.
