It is more likely that it will break up into several smaller states.

 

California has already committed economic suicide with the $15.00 minimum wage.

I say let the insufferable assholes secede and let them pay us for the all the improvements done with federal money. Let them pay for their own defense. Cut off every drop of water sourced from outside the state. Remove them from the electrical grid. Erect toll booths at the border on every interstate highway entering/leaving the state. Introduce tariffs on California produce. Tax California media products.

Then let them stew in their own juices.

 

Dig that! But the US can't allow. The western coast of the US needs to be militarily defended. Can't allow/rely upon "independent California" that responsibility. (Same reason we fought the Mexican-American war.)

 

Why not? Use them as a buffer, much in the way Soviet Russia used the Ukraine.

True that. Could set up US defenses on the east coast of CA as though it were the west coast.... and let the "new California independent state" bear the brunt of the initial assault.

Of course, that was the actual situation with Mexico way back when... and America couldn't allow Mexico the responsibility of defending the continent.
