Buying nice clothes is smart-- says study

Discussion in 'Psychology' started by marketsurfer, May 6, 2017.

  1. I have always enjoyed getting out of a high end luxury or sports car- at a trendy restaurant-- dressed homeless, unshaven and or in flipflops---- but wearing a nice watch-- there is really something to be said for the "i don't give a f" look juxtaposed against luxury.

Add in an attractive female dressed very nicely, and it tends to freak people out.

I wonder if Polo still makes the same high quality clothes it did in 70's and 80"s?
I wouldn't know since I hadn't bought any in a while because the colors are still vibrant and they wear really well.

  3. RL has stratified with only the Purple and Black label being the same quality as the old stuff--- the rest is mostly decent mass market quality but nothing special--

Hm, good to know. I remember asking a store clerk in the men's wear at Fields, if their really was a difference in quality. His response was just look at my shirt, its 13 years old and has the same crisp color, it still looks like new. That's when I switched to higher end clothing, there's nothing like spoiling your self and at the same time being smart with your money.

Unless you live like a monk, you'll damage shirts. Spill wine on them, catch them in door hinges so they rip, etc. It's a tough pill to swallow to ruin a $200+ shirt.

    Door hinges? wtf?!
Never heard that one before. How the hell does one catch their shirt in a door hinge? :D

I never hugged a door jam, I guess I was taught early on how to walk correctly, but I get the point accident's do happen.

I have maybe 40-50 short sleeve shirts and just as many long sleeve shirts if not slightly more. Most years, I only wear a shirt a couple of times. Many days, I just wear t-shirts or sweaters, so my clothes tend to be more timeless and fairly nice for 95%+ of North America. But then again, I don't live in a high fashion area where I would clearly be unfashionable. That isn't to rip on that lifestyle or fashion choice.

Some people want to mingle exclusively with 0.001%ers. I, however, am looking to be approachable to most people.

Some people look for bargains while other don't, but as far as fashion is concerned, its the quality in the materials, all fabric and dyes are not the same and this is proven after the first wash.
