One little problem with that French system is that French doctors make about 55K per year. I wonder how many medical students will be happy with that. Of course we could have the government pay for the schooling, medical insurance, etc. I'd be curious what the standards for medical school would be with the government paying for it...poor, minority with the "richness" of growing up in the hood? Sounds like a plan!
Because they do not live like Americans who will live up to the neck in debt to show off thier McMansion and SUV as some kind of prize. So they live stressed out lives trying to build totems and eat poorly because no bothers so they go and eat supersized Mcdonalds, fastfood. People walk more and live healthier lives. That is why people live longer plus people fuck more and sex is not evil in Europe. Down in the US god forbid they show tits on the big screen but its okay to show decapitation and violence on the big screen But the Debate in the US on the republican side is sad and makes them look like a bunch of crazy militia nuts. They are just playing to the palin core. Unfortunately all they are doing is alienating even more people. If only the Republicans would try the honest angle they would do so much better. Instead the new Palin redneck style republican party believes it is more effective to try and fool people into thinking Obama plans on opening up Nazi style gas chambers and load up boxcars with americans over 60. Seriously it just looks silly and pathetic. There are many problems with Obamas plan but unfortunately the public is not being made aware of it since we no longer have a valid opposition party left anymore.
Slanted lefist BS. This is being said everywhere, must be talking points for this week. ____________________________ It's true that the United States spends more on health care than anyone else, and it's true that we rank below a lot of other advanced countries in life expectancy. The juxtaposition of the two facts, however, doesn't prove we are wasting our money or doing the wrong things. It only proves that lots of things affect mortality besides medical treatment. Heath Ledger didn't die at age 28 because the American health care system failed him. One big reason our life expectancy lags is that Americans have an unusual tendency to perish in homicides or accidents. We are 12 times more likely than the Japanese to be murdered and nearly twice as likely to be killed in auto wrecks. In their 2006 book, "The Business of Health," economists Robert L. Ohsfeldt and John E. Schneider set out to determine where the U.S. would rank in life span among developed nations if homicides and accidents are factored out. Their answer? First place. That discovery indicates our health care system is doing a poor job of preventing shootouts and drunk driving but a good job of healing the sick. All those universal-care systems in Canada and Europe may sound like Health Heaven, but they fall short of our model when it comes to combating life-threatening diseases. Some of those foreign systems are great, as long as you don't get sick. Samuel Preston and Jessica Ho of the Population Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania examined survival rates for lung, breast, prostate, colon and rectum cancers in 18 countries and found that Americans fared best. The U.S. also excelled on other measures, such as surviving heart attacks for more than a year. Why? Because our doctors and patients don't take no for an answer. The researchers attribute the results to "wider screening and more aggressive treatment." Another factor is that we get quicker access to new cancer drugs than anyone else. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/08/16/whats_scary_about_health_care_reform_97901.html
Yeah the gun violence in the US is due to blacks, the health statistics are skewed because of minorities too, etc. People like you are filled with talking points. Why does US have an insane amount of autistic children?(proportion wise) Is it due to gun related violence too? Or maybe the system has flaws?
There is no mention of race in my post. Autism cases suddenly increased over the last 5 years. This is related to tort case law. Autism was being accepted in malpractice law. Goggle Autism and lawyers....its sad how the lawyers make it so easy to claim a child has autism.
I just cracked up laughing... It is so TRUE... We got cable. Saw very little violence, but Friday and Saturday nights saw hardcore porn on the regular Canal+ channels. That surprised me... Our first Christmas in France was interesting to say the least. We went shopping at Carrefour and we bought the usual things. Except they had langustin and it was an outrageous price. I looked at that, asked if they actually sold them? The sales person replied, of course its Christmas. My wife and I shook our heads and thought, "ok so how do the French afford this?" Then as we hit the parking lot and saw the 8 dents in our car that we received within the first 3 weeks of living in France we realized they don't buy expensive cars, or toys... We want to return to living in the South of France in the near future. And the first we are selling is our Mercedes! You just cry too much, since a little dent is ok... After it was an accident, and not done on purpose... (ok...) Right now we live in Switzerland and it is a completely private system. Albeit its regulated for the basic services. More expensive than most European, but a third less than the US. And people here like it.... It is a good health care system! The Republicans could do so well by showing examples like Switzerland...
Americans are told from cradle to the grave that america is the greatest country in the world. Because great many don't travel outside they believe people wear animal skins and don't have in door plumbing in (western) europe. Because of this ignorance, americans are frequently susceptible to all kinds of bs arguments. That is one of the reasons I believe getting news from a less nationalistic news source may be highly beneficial. BBC/Reuters/etc. Fox is the worst, of course.
