  1. It sets a precedent. You have to realize that OPEC has given serious consideration to the Euro since 2000. Saddam just said "F**K USA" and started converting some of his USD reserves and made an open policy of accepting Euros for payment. Then sanction heated up, then 9/11 and so on. The messages are been sent back and forth, geopolitics and all. OPEC is putting the Euro consideration on the back table, at least for now.
It's not like most major nations do not realize what is going on. It's just who is willing to start trouble. Iran made a direct attack on the dollar and seems to be willing to proceed with it. So they are a target but they have been for a while, since they have been contemplating this move for a while. With moves like the Iran Bourse, which keeps getting postponed. Iran has been talking about refusing the USD for years, and trying to influence its neighbors to do the same.
Note that Russia has been willing to accept both Euros and USD for oil. Russia & Putin have been under heavier political attack since. But Russia is no Iraq or Iran. Not even close.
My guess is that it will be played out with Iran.

It goes WAY past Bush and his administration. Decades back. Contrary to popular belief, Clinton never balanced the budget, never even came close. It's almost impossible to ever pay off that deficit under the current system. Not with the spineless politicians the US people are forced to accept.
Clinton was only able to have an operation surplus, since he did not have a war to deal with. Plus, all that foreign net investment and then the tech bubble.

There are so many Eurodollars out there, it''s ridiculous. Forget the electronic currency markets, if the real physical currency starts getting dumped, it's serious trouble.

  2. yeah iran warmongering is part of a wider well pre-defined agenda. this is all about hegemony and control of natural resources. pnac made it well clear back in 2000 what the goal of this administration are. the euro priced oil though, is not the central immobile engine that moves the cheney cabal into provoking iran [and half the middle east] into war, it's just one more incentive to gain control of central asia and continue the u.s adventurism in the gulf.
