WASHINGTON (CNN) — President Bush has asked both Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama to join him for a meeting at the White House Thursday afternoon to discuss the economic bailout plan, a White House officials said.

"The President called Sen. Obama tonight around 7:30 pm," said Dana Perino, White House press secretary. "The president has invited the bicameral and bipartisan leadership, and the two senators running for president, to the White House tomorrow to work on driving to a bipartisan and timely solution."

Obama's campaign said in a statement that he has accepted the invitation.

"A few moments ago, President Bush called Senator Obama and asked him to attend a meeting in Washington tomorrow, which he agreed to do," the statement said.

"He has said that he will continue to work in a bipartisan spirit and do whatever is necessary to come up with a final solution."

A McCain adviser said McCain also plans to attend

  4. Is McCains campaign suspension some kind of trick, he has been out all week and decides that the day of the first debate he cant be there. He is going to milk this crisis for votes. Very strange.

  5. Yawn! How long do we have to wait for the super implosion of the U.S. Economy. I don't want to hold my dollar shorts over the weekend!

  6. I can see it now-- big showdown with Russia, McCain suspends the presidency for a few months. Wow. He must be really afraid to debate Obama.

What would three politicians talk to pull the US out of the financial mess.

Both McCain and Obama most probably use charter jets so will be burning tax payers bucks just for media and votes.

Why cannot they talk via satellite link?

    Politicians after all!

The point that I am curious about is weather the CEOs and other high flying corporate top hats will be refused the golden parachutes and exit bonuses...........from the companies that they ran to the ground.

Does not make any business sense. It is like giving a gold medal to a runner who quit in the middle of the race.

They are trying to get Palin out of her debate with Biden...no doubt her performance (or lack of) would widen Obama's lead in the polls from 9 points (as of today) to 20+.

    CNN:

"McCain supporter Sen. Lindsey Graham tells CNN the McCain campaign is proposing to the Presidential Debate Commission and the Obama camp that if there's no bailout deal by Friday, the first presidential debate should take the place of the VP debate, currently scheduled for next Thursday, October 2 in St. Louis.

In this scenario, the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin would be rescheduled for a date yet to be determined, and take place in Oxford, Mississippi, currently slated to be the site of the first presidential faceoff this Friday."
