When I managed to get over the shock of that exchange, it struck me that the invocation of the Hitler era was actually a frighteningly apt and searing analogy, although not the one my friend intended. A million and a half civilians have been forced to live in an open-air prison in inhuman conditions for over three years now, but unlike the Hitler years, they are not Jews but Palestinians. Their jailers, incredibly, are survivors of the Holocaust, or their descendants. Of course, the inmates of Gaza are not destined for gas chambers, as the Jews were, but they have been reduced to a debased and hopeless existence.

Fully 80% of Gaza’s population lives on the edge of malnutrition, depending on international charities for their daily nourishment. According to the UN and World Health authorities, Gaza’s children suffer from dramatically increased morbidity that will affect and shorten the lives of many of them. This obscenity is a consequence of a deliberate and carefully calculated Israeli policy aimed at de-developing Gaza by destroying not only its economy but its physical and social infrastructure while sealing it hermitically from the outside world.

Particularly appalling is that this policy has been the source of amusement for some Israeli leaders, who according to Israeli press reports have jokingly described it as “putting Palestinians on a diet.” That, too, is reminiscent of the Hitler years, when Jewish suffering amused the Nazis.

Maybe the so called Palestinians should try blowing themselves up while killing civilians and firing rockets at Israel. Or have they tried that already?

OH gee that's awful? When are all the Palestinians going to move somewhere better? That's what I would do, to hell with the ghetto life, it's not as fun as people think... welfare sucks too, it never pays enough...

  5. Ten years ago Israel was doing everything it possibly could to end this sort of thing. Checkpoints dismantled, convicted terrorist prisoners freed by the thousands, willingness and preparations to create the Pali state you're supposedly fighting for... even East Jerusalem was placed on the negotiating table by Israel.

And what happened? An Israeli (opposition) politician decides to visit the holiest site in Judaism one day, and that's excuse enough for you people to tear down everything the peace process had built. So how's that second intifada working out for you guys? Do you like the fruits your senseless violence has brought you? No? Maybe you need to launch more rockets and suicide bombers at Israeli civilians. I'm sure that will help make your lives so much better.

  6. What they do under camera is bad, one can only imagine what they do in the absence of cameras.

Any human with minimum consciousness would feel pain watching the video. It is utter humiliation of elderly, children, women, and the many people who are ill. You may want to warn the viewers to the painful scenes in the video.

Those committing crimes may not realize that humanity is in the information age, and that information does not disappear. History is recording the crimes.

American tax money should not be used to pay those armed people, their armor, their sun glasses, horses, etc.

The money that Madoff stole in his ponzi schemes from innocent people, and sent to Israel, should be returned.

Less money would mean less resources to commit crimes.
