Besides, it is silly to build a box with a 1600 hundred chip and a motherboard that costs close to $700 in the first place. In 2 years or less the newer 32 nm chips will be out along with some REAL improvements in the bus system, memory cache etc. Bigger pci transmission etc is what is needed NOT more cores in a chip. The software is no where close to taking advantage of even the dual core duo chips. heck build a dual cpu box for a lot less, water cool it and be good to go for 1/3 the price of a silly quad core, skulltrail whatever. .. Tums, buy some fans ya cheapskate ..
Shit! Buy a $500 machine and the rest .... spend it on an exotic vacation. I have forgotten how many computers have passed through my life, but I still see the images of Bora Bora every time I want to feel like I am in paradise. BTW. If you trade futures, (I know big if), celeron with 1 gig of ram will do just fine.
bighog, I can imagine that people feel like Carl Lewis at the Special Olympics when talking to you. Run another lap for the crowd, this time without smacking your own skull? If a trader is running 8 monitors on four 2-port cards, then four PCIe slots are useful (not overkill). If he's running fewer monitors, like most, the extra PCIe slots are merely excess capacity in case of future need. An extra PCIe slot is not a big expense -- adds maybe $20 to the cost of the motherboard. Anyway, none of this is really germane -- you're getting yourself all balled up over side comments. My little Intel response is just a side comment to the person who brought it up. As I say, the Intel is not a motherboard I recommend. You have shown us all that you are an avid reader of various technology magazines and blurbs. Be careful of the reader's digest approach to learning. You do realize that not everyone relies on magazines, web sites, and other people's opinions for the facts? Some folks actually put stuff together and then test it. Your warning about what 'companies advertise' is irrelevant to people who do the work to get the facts. As it turns out, a 36 CFM case fan (plus the power supply fan) does the job nicely for this case/config. It is not a matter of saving money, but of creating a quiet work environment. By the way, in "2 years or less" new technology is coming out so don't upgrade your "windows 200k box" just yet. roflmfao. thanks for that. I love EliteTrader. Just when ya need a laugh, open up almost any thread and BAM! there ya go. Bring back bullz-n-bearz!!
The CPU The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 3GHz is a fast CPU. But at over $1,000 each, the price/performance is weak. I would like to get the Q9300; it is the new 45nm processor. But the CPU is so new, nobody has one for sale. So I settled for the Q6600. <img src="http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/attachment.php?s=&postid=1804411">
The most impressive site that you will feast your eyes on when you first see the Antec 900, is the gigantic 200mm exhaust fan on top! indeed!
Not too shabby. I haven't kept up the latest tech for a while. I like the REV loader. Would be even better if it can become a virtual disk rather 8 discreet drives a la Drobo. Also the 70gb disks would be even better if you could do your own disk upgrades. I hate getting lock up with Iomega proprietary technology. A lot of their other stuff have come and gone.

Thats quite a "recommendation". You can get what your NEED for trading for a more reasonable $600, or even less. (Last summer, I bought a new Dimension 9200 with C2D, 2G of RAM, 2, dualhead video cards, etc... for $400.)
