Broker short list

Discussion in 'Trading' started by stockerup, Mar 29, 2002.

  1. If you're long a stock in a cash account can your broker offer your shares out to short, or does the account have to be a margin account before they can be put on the short list?

    Thanks for any response,

  2. If I remember correctly, if the securities are held "in street name", they are available for borrow, could be wrong, I haven't acted as a principle in a B/D since '89.

I'm not familiar with the term "in street name", could you explain

    Thanks

  4. Basically, when you opened your account you where asked how you wanted your securities held. If you actively trade you would not want to take delivery, it is simpler to have them held that way.

I am a little rusty on that, you might want to double check; but I am sure I am close enough.
