Let’s see what Viktor Bout, the arms dealer in the proposed trade for Britney was charged with before he was tried and convicted in a system where a defendant’s guilt must be proven:
    1. Conspiracy to kill US Nationals (18 USC ch. 2332b).
    2. Conspiracy to kill US officers and employees (18 USC ch. 1114).
    3. Conspiracy to acquire and export a missile system designed to destroy aircraft (18 USC ch. 2332g).
    4. Conspiracy to provide material support or resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization (18 USC 2339b).

  2. While I don’t know about Brittany’s politics either, it sure seems the Biden Administration is playing politics here. We have seen this before in the Obama Administration where they were willing to exchange one apparently disgraced American for multiple convicted terrorists. Our politicians tend to be terrible negotiators who seem unwilling to use their leverage or patience in apparent hopes of a quick deal, no matter the potential cost.

  3. what leverage.does biden have to get russia to release Griner. You think Biden is.going to.risk.any plans or policies to get a basketball player released? Or.any president for that matter....

  4. Does not the apparent offer by the Biden Administration to exchange a major arms dealer for Griner suggest they are willing to diminish US geopolitical interests for party politics? The leverage the Biden Administration has over Russia I already talked about in my post. It is related to the normalization of tourism and business travel after the Russia-Ukrainian War ends. Further, Biden is currently resisting calls to designate Russia as a terrorist state. If Russia is designated as a terrorist state, secondary sanctions are likely to come in play against those countries that support Russia. Some countries will ignore and some will comply. The net result is Russia will be even worse off after being designated a terrorist state than they are now. Given that Russia’s prestige has taken a big hit, I can well imagine the Terrorist State designation as being powerful leverage over Russia. Admittedly, Nancy’s visit to Taiwan may undermine the potential effectiveness of that leverage to some extent.

So again, we are left with an administration that is focused on messaging for their perceived political gain at geopolitical cost, including putting American lives at risk instead of using other tools to achieve better outcomes. Next time, please read my posts more thoroughly rather than skimming and commenting, please.

  6. And then there's US Marine Paul Whelan.....left all to himself , in a Russian Jail.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The US is currently offering to exchange two Russians for two imprisoned Americans, Griner and former US Marine Paul Whelan, according to people familiar with the conversations. Whelan was convicted by a Moscow court in 2020 on espionage charges that he denies.

  7. Russia does not care... that is why they sentenced Griner to basically the max penalty and invaded Ukraine and have not stopped... you think now they are going to slow down because of lost tourism?

  8. We don’t need to do anything. Perhaps in a couple of years the Russia-Ukraine war will be over and Russia will be looking for ideas to get the US State Department to allow US citizens to travel to Russia again. One possible idea they might come up with is “Hey, maybe the Americans will open up if we send their citizens back to them”. In the scenario just presented, can you see the potential power of patience and benefit of not speaking first in a potential negotiation? As a bonus, the moral hazard of caving in to every perceived wrong by another country is avoided. True, it sucks to be Brittney with the uncertainty and lost time. Perhaps she can serve as an example to others of the importance to learn and comply with other nation’s laws before visiting than being an ugly American.

There's something YUGE missing from this skimmed millimeter deep version of the facts.
IF Grinder had only half a gram of hash oil and
IF Blinken can't demand she be released and be respected in this,
Then Fire Blinken's ass Immediately and consider yourself lucky to see what a feckless loser he and anyone around him is.
Replace and repeat. Fuck trading. The soldier is a separate case. Pursue separately.

    Back to Grinder:
Where's the Inventory of what Grinder is said to have been in posession of and charged with?
    Has anybody seen this?
Any of you shithouse lawyers can show me that inventory?
Is that not the least bit suspicious to you?
    Why the hell not?

This is not the entire story.
    Prove me wrong.

  10. Of the millions of tourists and business travelers to Russia in 2021 and early 2022, what was it about the defendants “Chosen” by Russia to be prosecuted? Could it be as simple as Russian Customs discovering contraband during an inspection?
