But you'll agree that they're far more the exception than the rule. Which was more or less my point. I wonder if they need that kind of volume or if they just like spending a lot of time in the gym. But, hey, from what you describe, it seems to work for them.
I'd agree they are very much the exception. My observation would be that most 60 years+ guys that call themselves fit are like myself and look better than 90% of our age range peers, are much stronger and agile, look good with a shirt on, shirt off...not so much. IMO 100% of the not so much is diet and at this point it's just too easy to say fuck it, I'll have another piece of that pie.
I like to think I still look pretty good with my shirt off. I sill have the pecs, a pretty good "V" and abs, although they're a lesser version of what they once were. My arms and shoulders took a bigger hit over the years. Perhaps it's because I'm doing less volume and no upper body isolation work, but I'm guessing time played a role as well. Even so, I still kinda like what I see, especially when I'm pumped. I think I still look better than some ~reasonably fit 30-year-olds. Let's see how long that lasts. As for the pie thing, I've pretty much written that stuff off. I only have pie or cake on birthdays, when I'm pretty much "forced" to have some. And even though I have very little, I feel guilty as shit for some time afterwards. Not only because of the empty carbs, but because in one sitting I have more added sugar than I normally have in about a month. So while I like to get together with family and friends, as you might have guessed I don't much like birthday parties. My weakness is fresh bread. And Montreal-style bagels, with which I cannot be trusted. I no longer buy them because I lose all sense of control if they're in the house. I limit my bread to the good stuff, and in ~reasonably small quantities, but I sometimes reinterpret what "reasonable" is.
Actually I can take or leave the pie, the cake, the candy and pastries. It's those drug dealing devils at Dairy Queen that get me, the Blizzards specifically. I'm like some crack head driving by a crack house when going past a DQ. The shit just calls out to me. I can only hold out for so long and then cave. The binge begins and three days and 3 blizzards later I'm filled with remorse and regret.
I agree that nothing beats an ice cream cone (or even a frozen yogurt cone) on a hot summer day. And I'd even allow for the saturated fat. But I just can't bring myself to have that much sugar. A number of years ago, I used to buy tubs of chocolate or cappuccino-flavored frozen yogurt and cones for just such occasions. But I stopped because of the sugar. Then a couple of years ago, I bought some in a moment of weakness. But I found it far too sweet, since I had weened myself off sugar. Presently, I cut up a banana into slices and freeze it. Once frozen, I allow it to thaw just enough so that the slices aren't hard but are firmer than normal. It is such a treat; almost like ice cream (for someone who hasn't had ice cream in some time and can't remember it clearly). Give it a try and tell me what you think.
J and J has an APP you can download called the 7 Minute Workout. You will be huffing and puffing at the end of 7 minutes. I used it for a few months but I got bored with it and moved on to something new.
Well, it's probably not because of the exclusion of upper body single joint (isolation) exercises. A look at 23 studies on the subject: https://www.researchgate.net/public...ti-Joint_Exercises_during_Resistance_Training (I've already reported on this study a while back: https://www.elitetrader.com/et/thre...d-losing-fat-2015.292625/page-84#post-4401254 ) Here are a couple of others, the first looking at untrained young men and the second at trained women: https://www.researchgate.net/public...trength_and_hypertrophy_in_untrained_subjects https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30487418 An article on the different studies, including one conducted on 17 national-level baseball players: http://www.infinitelabs.com/single-joint-exercises-do-you-really-need-them/
Yeah, ime watching too many strongman videos doesn't help either - my diet has seldom been very strict but it seems to have gone slightly South lately A bunch of lean guys with great abs at the gym I work out btw ( not older guys though). Looks very good the shirt off, but too skinny for my taste the shirt on. Haven't seen big lean guys in real life for quite a while, this would help my motivation to get leaner.
