Breyer to Retire

  1. No requirement to be a judge. or even a citizen or a lawyer. I mean constitutionally.

But the fix was in for Ketanji Brown Jackson wayy back when they rolled Merrick Garland out and put her in his position on the Appeals Court so that she would be warming up in the batter's box. It was never about advancing Garland's career although he is probably too stupid to know that.

At least that was the plan. She could always mess up during the appointment process and one of the other skin color women could always look better. Just sayin, they had a plan for her as a solid possibility.

Way too old. Not suggesting Joe should follow Trump's lead and nominate an alcoholic, mental three-year-old. Either AOC or Ilhan Omar are probably young enough to qualify, and I'd put money on Omar not getting wasted on beer every weekend. Omar would hit four buttons at once -- Muslim, Black, Female and sober.

What type of Supreme Court justice doesn't get wasted on beer every weekend. I thought a case per weekend was part of the job requirements.

Ya know, in all honesty Tree, as an American, I would welcome seeing a black woman appointed to the Supreme Court. As long as they have the record for it, and that record reflects well thought out rulings. I don't believe in affirmative action, I believe in people getting what they want based on what they have to offer, but in this particular case, there is a difference.

We all come from different walks of life and different upbringings. But trust me on this one, none of us "white men" can even come close to know what it's like to grow up as a black woman. We can't. I mean we can listen, we can learn, but unless you've walked in those shoes, that's about all you can do.

So I don't know about all the politics behind the scenes, but I hope Biden finds the most qualified African-American woman who (hopefully) came up from a meager start, rules close to the center, and has the wisdom to know what's truly right.
She's out there. I hope he finds her. It'll be good for our country.

Get Nina Turner in there, we need some attitude in those decisions.

  7. At the same time, the supreme court is about, well, judicial record and philosophy so I would not want to agree with your poiints in any way that prepares the stage for people to be accused of being racist when and if they have issue with her views. Even though there is zero chance that that can be avoided. Let us all also reflect on the fact that the country recently decided and agreed with Biden that picking a VP based on gender and skin color mostly would be a great idea and historic and all of that. Howz that workin out? Nope, there needs to be a full vetting beyond the skin color.

In addition, while and if we are reflecting on American history and how difficult it is for a person of color to try to walk certain walks, there is plenty of room for the left to reflect on their treatment of Clarence Thomas. His nomination was a take-down session orchestrated by and condoned by Joseph Biden who chaired the committee. A total disgrace. And then finally in all the years since it happened, he never apologized to either Thomas or Anita Hill for running that circus, but felt a sudden need to call Anita right as his campaign began because, well, it is all about Joe.

Note that Biden ran the kind of hearing where both Clarence Thomas and Anita Hill felt victimized and were because when Joe does something he does not like to finish it until everything and everyone is fucked up. Even Breyer's resignation announcement fits that category. How the hell can you fuck up a supreme court justice resignation announcement. Joe Biden can. Even if he didn't, we know he could have.

Having said that, yes, it would be great to have a black female justice, so pick someone who is not a commie or a loon.

They are going to pack as much into this legislative session as possible. They are very un-popular and on their way out.

    What is the issue here?

All we need is for Clarence Thomas to identify as a black female and Biden's wish is granted.
