  1. Sorry, I don't really understand... What's wrong with Switzerland, specifically?

Nothing per se, except it is like the US leaving NAFTA and showing off it is working on a trade deal with Guatemala.

you can't make that up....it is hard to take Brits seriously anymore (given the fact that below was even considered alone)

    WITHDRAWAL

While there is no precedent for Article 50, the House of Lords has discussed how any Brexit would work. In May, it published a report after consultations with legal experts.

In the report, Derrick Wyatt, one of the professors involved, said that while it would be politically difficult, the law allows the UK to change its mind after invoking Article 50.

"In law, the UK could change its mind before withdrawal from the EU and decide to stay in after all," said Wyatt." (Source Reuters)

There's a lot of misinformation still being spewed by those with their panties in a wad about the outcome of the vote.

Trade agreements will be negotiated between heads of state and their reps, with the EU only acting as a conduit. There is no such thing as the UK going to the table with the EU to negotiate trade deals with - say Germany for instance. Trade is in the best interest of everyone and the UK has the ability to compete mightily on the world stage sans the EU crutch.

And nearly every one of these "hateful xenophobes" that voted LEAVE is completely supportive of legal SKILLED immigration. What they don't want is the unskilled to arrive simply for the purpose of collecting a gov't benefit...which is becoming rampant.

you could not be more incorrect. Access to the single European market will be negotiated by the EU and not single member states. Where did you get that idea from? Please cite from a EU source rather than some propaganda websites.

And you are talking out of your ass re "skilled immigration". The biggest issue was European LEGAL SKILLED workers coming to the UK. Even a barista is skilled, given he is employed by the coffee shop simply means no other Brit wanted to touch that job. Are you now trying to argue that unskilled labor came to take the unskilled jobs of unskilled Brits away? That is laughable. And if you dont want any new arrival to gab their fat fingers into your NHS pot then that could have been done unilaterally by the British government. You can't possibly blame the EU for that.

That's my understanding too, and it might come as a surprise to some of the member states.

  7. Huh? You're rather confused, I think...

To be very clear, I am referring to the ongoing negotiations between the EU and Switzerland regarding the legally binding 2014 rejection by Swiss citizens of the "free movement" principle. I have mentioned this in my previous posts.

Data from an EU source? That's like quoting you as a source. Jaded commentary doesn't make it a fact.

70% of UK exports are outside of the EU already. The new paradigm will have this 70% - and potentially a good deal of the remainder covered under WTO rules. If they wish to negotiate a new deal with the EU, they may do so but the basic terms of any agreements between the UK and member countries will be between those two parties. WTO rules trump any shenanigans that the EU may try to pull as a result of their loss here.

It's not going to be undone. No matter how profoundly you claim the sky is falling.

  9. Been busy today and only just read the news. Boris is finished.

I thought he'd stepped down to let Gove have a shot. I'm genuinely shocked that Gove has stabbed him in the back. Gove isn't interested in the PM job, he's said that many times. He's done this simply to derail Boris.

I can't see Boris coming back from this. I suspect his political career is over.

Wonder what the bookie's odds are on May? I may have a punt. I really can't see any of the others contenders having a chance.
