Currently, your eligible assets are protected from loss either under the US Securities Investor Protection Corporation or the UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme (which regime applies depends on the relevant segment of your IBUK account). The FAQs provide further details in Question 2 of Part B available

According to FAQS: IBIE Brexit Account Migration | IB Knowledge Base (ibkr.info)

    11. Will I be subject to the U.S. Pattern Day Trading Rule once my account is migrated?

Accounts maintained with IBUK are subject to the U.S. Pattern Day Trading (PDT) rule as the accounts are introduced to and carried by IBLLC, a U.S. broker. The PDT rules restricts accounts with equity below USD 25,000 to no more than 3 Day Trades within any 5-business day period.

As accounts migrated to IBIE will not be introduced to IBLLC, they will not be subject to the PDT rule.

    Is this really true ?

Has anyone already got migrated? It's the last day of 2020 but I still didn't receive any information. I'm starting to feel that IBKR is not really controlling the situation and it doesn't look like they have the migration process under control

  5. I was looking at their homepage today and noticed a large red banner, alerting all customers in Europe to initiate an account transfer. Apparently you need to log in to your account to start the transfer procedure. It does not affect me, so I don't know what happens next.

Well, I opted in for migration a week ago already and I was told to wait - so I'm waiting, but it looks like there is not much time left this year :)

BTW, the migration FAQ points at mid-december as a probable migration date:

  7. You are right. In November i gave my o.k for an account migration to ireleand. Since then i didn´t hear anything from IB. So tomorrow is the first of the new year. I would like to know if i can trade on the next monday without the PDT Rule or other restrictions. I was told that the PDT rule does no longer exist for accounts which are moved to the new EU based IB firms.

  8. Just a guess. Look at your statement. If the company is IBUK - you have PDT. If the company is IBIE, you do. The news of the approval came last week, it would be reasonable to assume migration will take place over a few weeks or weekends.
