breaking / reversing hypnosis

I know a guy that became involved with a cult. They ruined his character. He treats his family with contempt. Is paranoid that people are after his money (though a lot of them are). Any time he gets in a good conversation that looks like its going to help him, this switch flips in his mind and he self-sabotages the conversation gets angry at whoever is involved, and hides.

Any ideas?

Which cult? Maybe he needs a deprogrammer? Does he even want to be helped?

 

Does not want to be helped. Does need deprogrammed.

 

I am aware that people can be brainwashed, as well as hypnosised into stuff they would not agree with.
So ?

 

Many years ago you could kidnap people out of cults and have them deprogrammed. I don't know if you can still do that or not.
