  1. yah why didnt they send a robot carrying a hose to the pool?

I thought Japan was the home of robots.

Calm down man... look at what the market is telling you - is it saying that the spent fuel is about to go critical?

although I believe markets get it right more often than any central planner they do go out of whack, bubbles etc. I'm not sure the market is really the best guide in this instance

It took months for the markets to respond the US housing/debt crisis
    many other examples of course

if you look at the status reports of the reactors it is getting worse, it is just that people are getting complacent, worn down because the worst case scenario is too difficult to accept

    http://www.dail*****.co.uk/news/art...finally-admit-radiation-leak-kill-people.html

The moment nuclear plant chief WEPT as Japanese finally admit that radiation leak is serious enough to kill people

    * Officials admit they may have to bury reactors under concrete - as happened at Chernobyl
    * Government says it was overwhelmed by the scale of twin disasters
    * Japanese upgrade accident from level four to five - the same as Three Mile Island
    * We will rebuild from scratch says Japanese prime minister
    * Particles spewed from wrecked Fukushima power station arrive in California
    * Military trucks tackle reactors with tons of water for second day

The boss of the company behind the devastated Japanese nuclear reactor today broke down in tears - as his country finally acknowledged the radiation spewing from the over-heating reactors and fuel rods was enough to kill some citizens

Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency admitted that the disaster was a level 5, which is classified as a crisis causing 'several radiation deaths' by the UN International Atomic Energy.

Officials said the rating was raised after they realised the full extent of the radiation leaking from the plant. They also said that 3 per cent of the fuel in three of the reactors at the Fukushima plant had been severely damaged, suggesting those reactor cores have partially melted down.

After Tokyo Electric Power Company Managing Director Akio Komiri cried as he left a conference to brief journalists on the situation at Fukushima, a senior Japanese minister also admitted that the country was overwhelmed by the scale of the tsunami and nuclear crisis.

He said officials should have admitted earlier how serious the radiation leaks were.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said: 'The unprecedented scale of the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan, frankly speaking, were among many things that happened that had not been anticipated under our disaster management contingency plans.

'In hindsight, we could have moved a little quicker in assessing the situation and coordinating all that information and provided it faster.'

Nuclear experts have been saying for days that Japan was underplaying the crisis' severity.

It is now officially on a par with the Three Mile Island accident in Pennsylvania in 1979. Only the explosion at Chernobyl in 1986 has topped the scale.

Deputy director general of the NISA, Hideohiko Nishiyama, also admitted that they do not know if the reactors are coming under control.

He said: 'With the water-spraying operations, we are fighting a fire we cannot see. That fire is not spreading, but we cannot say yet that it is under control.'

But prime minister Naoto Kan insisted that his country would overcome the catastrophe

'We will rebuild Japan from scratch,' he said in a televised speech: 'In our history, this small island nation has made miraculous economic growth thanks to the efforts of all Japanese citizens. That is how Japan was built.'

It comes after pictures emerged showing overheating fuel rods exposed to the elements through a huge hole in the wall of a reactor building at the destroyed Fukushima nuclear plant.

think about how much of detached money focused psychopath you have to be to allow your company to choose to store spent nuclear fuel rods in a pool (which needs constant electricity), next to a reactor, on top of a fault near an ocean.

I sure hope we do not have crazy sobs allowing that to happen at san onofre and diablo canyon.

oh wait minute... isn't that what the no nukes people were saying in the 70s.

  9. Well, firstly, this is Japan. It's not like there's a lot of places in Japan that aren't on top of a fault near an ocean, what with it being a bunch of islands and all. Secondly, in many ways it actually makes sense to store all radioactive material, including the spent rods, in one place for safety and security reasons. As far as I know this is standard operating procedure for most nuclear power plants. So thinking about it, I don't see how this is about money-focused psychopaths.

It is more than aggravating to see this happening day after day. These people needed to be told the truth so they can escape. It is right to be angry. It would be wrong to following along with lies or be indifferent. Also take note of what they have done in Japan. It must be a calculated decision, and it follows that the US would do the same. Disgusting. A lot more anger being said over at zero hedge. I always take that site with a grain of salt, but I really liked this post.

Nuclear chain reaction Panic-radiation will soon be wide spread. Prepare accordingly.

Shame is the byproduct of lies. Ironically it's the lies we tell our self that cause the most shame. Pain is our friend if we listen, pain is here to keep us alive. It looks to be the end of days for many.
