Let's hope the Japanese can do something to contain the disaster from growing bigger. Perhaps we may also watch the markets and get some clue.

Some news breaking out of the Pentagon: US forces in Japan are not being allowed within 80km of the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant without special authorisation.

It's worth remembering, for Japanese residents, the evacuation zone around the site is limited to 20km, and those living between 20-30km from the plant encouraged to 'stay indoors'.

Sorry forgot to add 50 seconds into the video you can see the whole place is smoldering.

Meltdowns have occurred radiation is out, not just in explosions but like water out of tap now.
I will tell you one more time, THE ONLY thing that saved Japan is the fact that 95% is blown into pacific, but mark my words, this will cause problems for rest of us
The only thing you can do now is bury it, nothing else

I think the 20+ years worth of spent fuel rod pool outside of the containment vessel is most critical now (no pun intended)

but if the pool has holes in it (because it was damaged by the earthquake or explosions) then I can't see that dumping any amount of water from a helicopter on it is going to make much difference; Why don't they try ice cubes instead?

And what is the last line of defence when full scale meltdown is confirmed?

It sounds like having a fire in your house and hoping that the fire will stop on its own accord. And I don't think they are still attempting to cool the fuel rods any more because the radiation near the plant is so high.

But let's be honest, we're not fully in the loop, perhaps the Russians and French have received information that we have not via the staged press conferences and industry nuclear experts that get wheeled in front of the cameras.

I agree. The Japanese are now busing people far from the site. Looks like the Japanese are beginning to accept the fact that it's only a matter of time at this point..:(

  9. Michio Kaku thinks we are close to a point of no return and to bombard it with concrete
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"We're very close now to the point of no return," Dr. Michio Kaku, a theoretical physicist, said. "It's gotten worse. We're talking about workers coming into the reactor perhaps as a suicide mission and we may have to abandon ship."

A group of 180 workers rotate shifts working at the plant in teams of 50 men. The men have been nicknamed the "Fukushima Fifty."

"I think the last ace in the hole is the Japanese Air Force, the military at some point may have to take over, may have to bury these reactors in concrete just like we did at Chernobyl, sandbagging the reactor with 5,000 tons of concrete, boric acid and sand," Kaku said.

  10. Well cyborg unfortunately what you were afraid of appears to be unfolding as we speak.

I notice all the nuclear genuises that were abusing you a couple of days ago are nowhere to be seen now.

What a suprise. Probably the same forum idiots that laughed at people who posted about the banking crisis..
