Would have had to do it during Obama's first 6 years. Otherwise McConnell would have held the position open for two years. We definitely need a new amendment to shut down the possibility of that sort of nonsense
Surprisingly to you I'm sure, I agree. I don't know about an amendment, but if a Justice retires or dies, the sitting president should have the right to appointment and assuming there's enough time for the standard senate procedure to confirm, then that's how it should be. I don't like the game playing by either side as it always comes back around to bite people.
